In Honor for them
Hey all I am sorry I didn't post this yesterday but I had an emotionaly charged day and I needed some time to calm down and process this. As I previously said about a week ago I would wear my donkey democrat pin on the pentecost at Episcopal mass to protest the way the media thinks the gop owns the right wing. Note I got my parish's priest okay to do this first.
Anyhow to my surprise I got an overwhelmy positive response from my parish. Half the people during coffee hour thanked me and a quarter did not care. The only problem happened was when one of the tellers asked me why I was wearring a democrat pin too work. I replied something thing like this. Note I polished this up a little bit.
I wear my pin to honor them, the people who are suffering with diseases from diabetes to cancer to parkinsons that can be treated with stem cell. I wear my pin to honor gblt people who have been hurt threatened, and had there rights taken away by the gop. I wear my donkey pin to stand behind pregnant mothers who are forced to carry fetus to term that are either the results from rape, or might cause paralysis or death upon deliverly, and I wear this pin to honor the fallen americans in this phoney crusade.
Now Barry that was the tellers' name looked at me, shrugged his shoulders, and went into his car. And for the first time I noticed a licensed plate that said viet nam vets hate jane fonda bumper sticker on it. When I asked Father Jim about this and if I should appologize he said that never served in Nam. And he actually thanked me for putting him in his place. So anyhow thats the story of how my day went.
And I want to thank DU so much for giving me the moral courage to speak up for myself. You guys are awesome I never could have done something like this without your support. And when I am down and even feeling a little paranoid of whats going on today its nice to have you guys watching my back.
Thank you everyone.
