This was emailed to me in response to an op ed piece I wrote about the Christian right and what jerks they are, etc. Both the writer of this letter and I live in the Dallas, Texas area. So, maybe there is hope for our state.
Thank you very much for your editorial article in today's Dallas Morning News. I read it twice this morning and then insisted that my wife read it this evening. Tomorrow it will be the kids. I greatly appreciate your sentiments as my wife and I feel that we are religiously and politically under siege by those same folks that you mention in your article. It is offensive to meet new people and have the first question out of their mouth be "What church do you attend?" It is none of their business what church I attend, or if I attend chuch at all. Nevertheless, they feel as if it is their obligation to wrestle me through the doors of their church so they might help save another wayward soul and get one more notch on their heavenly staff. Unfortunately, the political machine has figured out how to manipulate the mindless masses. While there are many very religious and spiritual people who do not share the views of these self-righteous lemmings, we are now cast into the role of "non-believers" by religious and political leaders if we dare oppose their agenda. Given a choice, I would much rather be a thinking non-believer than drink the kool-aid with this crowd. If the political cancer festering in our country continues to grow, our children have a very bleak future. I don't mean to ramble on, but did want to thank you for making your (and my) voice so clearly heard. Regards, David R_______:woohoo:
