I'm cruising on firefox right now - question....
Edited on Mon May-16-05 03:31 PM by Jesus Saves
Where's 'history' and 'favorites' which I was so used to seeing on my IE browser? Where's the 'cookies' stored?

Still not sure how it's better - but it is nice to get away from microsoft. So how do they make money off this? How is the code different, etc??????

If you want to see cookies, look in options.

4. You need to experiment.

Dig around. You'll find some amazing tricks. You can slim down the tool bar by dragging and dropping, etc. You can get a better skin, etc. I suggest you try the Stumble Upon extension...it is amazing. Just jump in with both feet.

edit- oops...this was meant as a response to original poster

5. There are tweaks to speed it up, too

And a tabbed browsing add-on that is supposed to improve things.

2. Jesus Jesus!
Just play around!

The app is based on Mozilla, which is what Netscape is based on. There are many similarities product-wise with the two, tabbed web pages, etc.

This was developed by some of the same poeple who developed Netscape and did it on their own time.

3. firefox should have asked you if you wanted them copied
from IE, and you should post this in the lounge.

6. Favorites are in "bookmarked" at the top (you can import some)
I use "go" for history. I just started using it, so I'm still trying to figure it out as well.

7. So far three topics on this.
You know, you don't have to start a new topic everytime you have a question. Besides, this should probably be in the lounge.

11. Not The Lounge
There is a Computer Help and Support Group at DU:

This is the appropriate Forum for Computer related questions.
The people that hang there are patient, knowledgeable and very helpful.

8. There is a nice walkthrough on Mozilla:
There is a nice mini-walkthrough up on Mozilla. It's very helpful when making the initial switch from Firefox - it goes over how to find everything and how to customize the browser to suit your needs.

But, yeah, part of the fun is to just explore and see what you can find. There is a lot that can be customized in the menus and about:config file.

9. It doesn't 'fit' my screen
Edited on Mon May-16-05 03:52 PM by Jesus Saves
The bottom - where you see the URL of the links you're about to click on doesn't show up - other than that I'm diggin' it.

12. I used to lose my bookmarks weekly...real pain in the ass...
they are still on the computer under "bookmarks/hmtl" but another pain to retrieve them.

I think that problem is now gone with the new Firefox updates...

I just updated to FireFox 1.4 a few minutes ago...

13. Try the Bookmarks Synchronizer extension:
LaPera:

You should download the Bookmarks Synchronizer extension. I use it here and it's absolutely invaluable.

Basically it will just allow you to upload your bookmarks to a remote server (specified by you) when you exit the browser and then download them when you open your browser, just in case anything happens to your bookmarks.
