I was browsing the site to find out what I should be praying for today, and was amused by this quote:

For some reason the presidents of the past used to be eloquent, smart and had a basic understanding of the difference between right and wrong.

On the other hand those people came from a different background and often had been involved in good causes and did a lot for the people prior to becoming active in politics. Herbert Hoover was selected by merit and once involved in politics he showed his merit once again and that lead to him becoming a president. It's quite a different story.
