Just Bought "Network"
Never saw the movie, but it seems that Barnes & Noble has had the movies I want in stock, when I want them
(Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, Network, Bush Family Fortunes - in the last 2 weeks)

I like that store!

For those of you who have seen this movie, what were your favorite parts?

1. William Holden's performance
It is understated especially compared to Peter Finch's and Faye Dunaway, but his character is the moral compass of the film and I love every scene he is in. I honestly think that he should have won the Oscar that year instead of Finch--but Finch's recent death probably played a part.

12. One of my favorite scenes in ANY movie. So prophetic, so moving,
the whole movie is pure gold.

3. Whew, it's been a while but
Let's see.

The infamous Mad as Hell part of course.

Faye Dunaway's sex scene. Arguably the most non gratuitous sex scene in movie history as it reveals more about her than 30 minutes of any other movie could.

Ned Beatty.

Ned Beatty. He is so good in his one small scene it had to be said twice.

The closing narration.

The meetings with the revolutionary groups.

Enjoy the movie.

4. It's the only movie I ever went back to see a second time in the theater.
There are too many great scenes to pick a favorite, however, almost every scene with Howard Beale (Peter Finche) is masterful.

Unfortunately, Paddy Chayevsky's satire has become even more applicable with each passing year.

5. One of the best scripts ever!
Seriously. The writing is intelligent and assumes that the viewer is as well. When do we get that anymore?

I still get chills during the "Mad as Hell" segment. It was so prophetic about what has happened to our media. Here we had a perfect warning, completely articulated and still we let this happen. It's so depressing.

6. Two Words: Ned Beatty
Edited on Mon May-16-05 01:36 PM by mcscajun
You'll know the scene when you watch.

A few more words: Most of it has come to pass, sadly.

9. Something to notice as you watch it
Sidney Lumet directed it and I remember him talking about a cinematographic trick he used. The movie starts out with a flat, dull kind of look to it but gets shinier and glossier as it progresses.

The idea being for it to start out almost with a documentary feel and then to progress into being slick and commercial.

Kind of a commentary on the television industry and commercialism.

13. We'll tell you any SHIT you want to hear!!!
I thought Peter Finch was magnificent and the rest of the cast were right with him. But that line sticks in my mind more and more these days.
