Edited on Mon May-16-05 11:50 AM by southernleftylady
I was listening to Jerry on airamerica and they were on and on about this Newsweek thing but he didn't show how hypocritical it is that the white house is so upset that Newsweek put out false (maybe maybe not) info and that violence broke out and 17 were killed...
whats the difference between that and the U.S. putting out false info GOING TO WAR and 1,600 Americans died (lets not even talk about Iraqis killed)

how is this any different?? and they are SOOOO upset about this???

1. Par for the course.
This is by far the most hypocritical administration we've had in the last century.

3. Hypocrisy plain and simple. I believe Newsweek in the
first place. When have we ever received the truth from this most corrupt administration? I believe Newsweek was pressured by the WH to change it. Alas, that has become the norm.

6. If it weren't so tragic I would laugh
I mean the Arab world is not upset because of Newsweek - thy are upset because of Bush atrocities. On more media scapegoat.

8. The only reason they claim the Newsweek report is wrong
Is because Newsweek didn't get any pictures or videotape of a Koran in a toilet. You think this murdering bunch of thugs currently running our country would have admitted to anything untoward going on at Abu Ghraib without extensive documentation and pictures? As it is, they try to minimize every report: It's a few bad apples; it wasn't so very bad; okay, maybe it's kind of bad, but it's abuse, not torture; and on and on.

Remember, Newsweek reported on a military memo about what was going on at the Guantanamo Concentration Camp. It's not like their reporter (or any reporter for that matter) was on the scene, giving an eyewitness account.

This is what the United States stands for in the eyes of the world: Torture, disrespect, lawlessness, and above all no accountability. The reason the PNACers are so obsessed with hanging on to power is because they know there's a reckoning of accounts due, and they want to put it off as long as possible and if at all possible to have that reckoning land on someone else.

10. You Say Hypocrisy, I say..."
Let's be clear...

NEWSWEEK has not retracted it's story.

It has retracted that their source was 'official'.

The story is REAL - It HAPPENED - Qurans were desecrated.

The only hypocrisy involved in this incident is from the right-wing commentators pretending that NEWSWEEK got it wrong, when they got it absolutely right.

There is no need to bring up falsehoods from the right to explain away NEWSWEEK's mistake - the only mistake NEWSWEEK made was in bowing to White House pressure.

11. Welcome to DU, OneAngryDemocrat.
And let me just say that I felt "shocked and awful" after looking at the Uzbek boiled prisoner picture on your website. Unbelievable.
