Bringing the best out in people
Don't you wish we had an enlightened leader
who really knew how to bring out the best in
us and the world.

wouldn't that be the best feeling...

1. Right now,
I'd settle for a Democrat in the White House, and a Democrat majority in Congress.

I really wouldn't care if we all behaved like howling monkeys, if I could just have that.

4. I don't think that's a political leader's job
Want to be your best?

Be your best. It's up to you.

6. leader's are supposed to lead well, not badly
IMO, why hire them if they don't lead well.

11. You're absolutely right
But a political leader is put there to do the job well. If that's what inspires you, that's great, and perfectly understandable.

But, as for bringing out the best in people, well, you and I differ as to how that fits into the job description of a political leader.

My belief is that your behavior is up to you, not to some elected official.

14. Then rise up
and get busy making sure these "leaders" aren't re-elected.

A hard job, to be sure, but a vital one.

And that has nothing to do, by the way, with the kind of person you are, or how much you might be maximizing your potential. That's up to you.

18. I've spent 30 years
as a Constitutional lawyer, working on everything from Black Panther murder trials to Nazis in Skokie.

My life has been about getting my message out.

There's more to it than rising up.

5. They'd kill an enlightened leader
As much as i'd love to have one. Perhaps it will come in time,
4 decades from now or so.

First we must reach the point where we're ready to listen to an
enlightened leader. Rather it seems here on DU, that we want a
leader like "we" want.... Kucinich is not acceptable to some... and
Kerry is too DLC for some... and Hillary is too 'known' for some... and
Obama is too ... and on and on and on that no leader is really one
who we can come together with, because we're still not humble.

Dammit, my fikkin dog would make a better president than ANY republican.
That's the truth, and geez, instead, we're still a bickering lot
unable to come together, filled with divisiveness, distrust and all
the viruses and toxicity of distrust that fill postmodern society.

Before an enlighened person can come to the helm, there must be the
sincere prayer, in the inner most hearts of the people, that they will
be willing to put aside their egotism to accept the wisdom of the real
deal. Until then, no enlightened blessing.... adrift in a sea of egotism.

13. is the word deepseated or deepseeded?
deepseeded seems appropriated to something
strongly planted.

9. Yes. It is very hard to be led by someone who attacks his own people
and does everything to 'not solve problems' that work in his favor.

Very sad indeed.

10. I hope some don't settle for the outcome from this kind of action
eventually deepseated anger and resentment come
from actions that just come from bullying and
that reaction won't be pretty.

It's so easy to destroy...so hard to create.

16. You try to react with compassion. You take a break from the news
and step back from it all if it starts to eat away at you. And hopefully, if you don't consume the news for a bit..you can grieve the loss of 'the way things used to be' and become a bit more discerning about what you will put your heart into. You pick your battles. And you volunteer to mentor teens or build a community garden to get back the humanity.

Grieving is important so you can hit acceptance.

17. I hear what you're saying....
grieving and acceptance...
but I won't accept and certainly not quit
taking the battle to the top.
I'm not discouraged, just realistic. And
the truth is all there is.

thanks for your empathy.
