What's going on in Afghanistan ?? and Uzbekistan ??
Edited on Sun May-15-05 12:32 PM by kentuck
Hundreds of people have been killed in Uzbekistan, the former Soviet Republic, in recent days. Is Putin pulling the strings on any of this recent violence? How close is Uzbekistan to US?

And in Afghanistan, the Muslim clerics have declared a "holy war" on Bush and America if the troops that flushed the Koran down the toilet are not handed over. Nobody is going to be handed over so where are we headed? Afghanistan has been one of the bragging points of the Bush Administration, up to this point, but it appears that even that "victory" may slip through their fingers?

1. Did someone say DRAFT?
The problem with putting our troops on some bullshit mission like invading a country that didn't attack us, is that shit happens on its own elsewhere.

Like this Uzbekistan thing.

2. We have bases in Uzbekistan
Edited on Sun May-15-05 12:34 PM by eleny
Remember how we got them there after Turkey wouldn't allow us to launch from Turkey. So, that puts us right in Uzbekistan.

Edit: Aisa Times article: US scatters bases to control Eurasia http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Central_Asia/GC30Ag01.html

Dictator Karamov looks pretty cozy with Rummie and Bush in these pics. But when did Rummie and Bush ever meet a brutal dictator they couldn't do business with?

6. You can add Pakistan to that list.
Remember back in 2000-2001 how wacky the Taliban seemed, blowing up Buddhist monuments and so forth? Same kind of shit, different day. It will come back to haunt us, one way or the other.

8. CNN lady cheerfully assures us Uzbekistan is quiet
then as an afterthought mentions "at least 450 dead."

9. A quote from the people in Uzbekistan
"We are not going to overthrow the government. We demand economic freedom," a pale and thin Egomov told AP.

"If the army is going to storm, if they're going to shoot, we are ready to die instead of living as we are living now. The Uzbek people have been reduced to living like dirt," he said.

12. Didn't you hear? Newsweek says they made a mistake about the Koran story.

The BFEE held a gun to Newsweeks head and they (of course) roled over on the story - sorry it is not true, never happened, so stop talking about it!
