Apparently they're NOT all made in China. I was surfing for something else, and stumbled upon this site -

1. I made my own.

The silicon ones have become ubiquitous and meaningless at this point. Everybody and his uncle has a different one, and you'd need to be a Hindu deity to have enough arm space to display all your favorite causes.

I made a bracelet of three strands of black silk cord, braided together with a single thread of fine silver. It says it all for me. I'm in protest and mourning for my nation and the world, but there's that fine strand of hope still very much alive.

I'm waiting for the day when I can take this bracelet off in celebration and replace it with one yet to be designed.
