1. I was born and raised their!! Not really a good place to live.

Your political map of the US freaks me out- I want to see one that's population based-not area based.

2. Pompous, vulgar, overpriced, seen as sin, & has Wayne Newton to boot.
Capitalism incarnate.

No thanks.

Probably blue because more Dems than repukes would support them - ironically.

But enough about you! :)

Kidding. But we DO have DU members and lots 'n lots of Democrats living there. Whether it's your cup of tea or not, I hope they enjoy the centennial celebration.

5. Also there's water...
It's in one of the dryest places on earth yet uses more water than most major cities in the US. In the West, Water Is King but Las Vegas wastes more and more water every day. Huge palaces of greed with fountains and artificial rivers. Golf courses everywhere. More and more bluegrass lawns being planted in the subdivisions, the list goes on and on.

7. Oh I'm sure they'll have a great celebration...
It's what they do. There are just a few of us that won't be celebrating with them.

Really now. Just what does Las Vegas contribute to the greater good? What is their reason for being?

8. Oh let me up..
Does every post have to examine the greater good of life? You don't like the city, fine. We have DUers from Vegas. Why the need to chime in something unpleasant?

10. A Commie? lol
OK.. Forget the greater good. Just a figure of speech. Let me rephrase. What does Las Vegas contribute. Period.

Wow now I know that I'm in the right place if I'm asked if I'm a Commie on DU! :)

12. Are you serious?
What does Vegas contribute?

Well, its only the entertainment capital of the world. You know, "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas"?

It's a big economic center; as you know, a lot of money changes hands there. A lot of money to be made (and lost), and it certainly is the center of Nevada's economy. So there's a "contribution".

You can drink on the streets; and hookers are plentiful!

Of course, if you're one of those people that doesn't see the benefit of "fun", then Vegas' contributions to the "greater good" might seem minimal.

Now, my question to you is, what does Wyoming contribute to America's greater good? :)

13. Happy Birthday Las Vegas!
I live in Las Vegas..and it's not the worst place to be. I have a love/hate relationship with this city. The centennial celebrations are just a way to bring the community together.

14. Well lets see...
Agriculture, mining and tourism are their top three industries. I know that tourism is another reason for going to Las Vegas but the tourists in Wyoming to to see things like Devil's Tower, Yellowstone, The Tetons, fish in gold medal trout streams, etc.

Wyoming is second in production of wool, has a large percentage of the last remaining family owned farms (that number is shrinking though) and produce a large percentage of the US consumption of sugar beets, barley, corn, wheat and dried beans even though their growing season is only 90-120 days.

Oh and the casinos in Wyoming are owned by native americans.

15. Yeah, that's great and all, but..
Dick Cheney is from there, so everything you just said is basically moot. I know of no such evil men from Las Vegas.

20. Entertainment is not a contribution?
Vegas is entertainment for some.

You might as well ask what's contributed by movie theaters, Broadway shows, amusement parks, etc...
