Do you get tired of arguing with STUPID Freepers?
I started a thread yesterday about a fool who claims that people who's last name ends in a vowel arent "real" americans. His ignorance and raw stupidity is astounding. I'm beginning to see more and more of that of late. Morons voicing their ignorant and just plain stupid claims and opinions proudly and defiantly. And being marginally intellegent, I tend to try to call them on their bullshit and argue the facts with them. But its almost like they put their fingers in their ears and say "La La La La, I cant hear you". Thats been happening a lot of late and I'm getting tired.

Yesterday I'm at a gas staion/convenience store, paying for gas. This dude in front of me, about 35 or so, is paying his pump, choosing several "scratcher" tickets and rambling on about how gas is so expensive. He goes of "Hey, I voted for the guy but he's doing everything wrong." I interjected, "Why'd you vote for him a second time after the 1st 4 years of disaster". He says, "There was no other choice". Me: "What about John Kerry?". Freep: "He's a liar and a coward. Faked his wounds in Viet Nam, Likes to kill babies with abortions. Plus his wife is a bitch".

Now I was fuming over his ignorants stupidity and for the fact that he's standing there staring at the various scratchers deciding which ticket is his ride riches, wasting my 30 minute lunch break. I was locked and loaded with info/facts to make his head explode. My heartrate climbed to about 120 and I was about to unload on him when he says. "Bu$h is a great man and a real christian. He's doing gods work making war against those "Arabians".

Then my head exploded. I knew that I could tell him a thing or two. Try to educate him about what is really happening. But I then knew that it would be pointless with this guy. No matter what you told him, presented to him....he'd still hold the same STUPID opinons. He finally picked his last scratcher and left saying to me: "You watch, bu$h will get it together".

Do you still engage in arguments with souls like this? I must just be tired of expending my energy on someone who's brain would best suit as a doorstop.

that they just can't admit that they have made a mistake. They don't want to look bad for choosing this idiot for a second time.

There is another message boards that I go to that is infested with freepers...they bring no facts to the table, they only bring right wing talking points. They insult you and try to change the subject when you hit them with actual facts.

I have no sympathy for the feeble minded...

3. Yes - it's my job :)
Was in a diner yesterday, and on the wall was a 3x5 foot banner : "Support our Troops"
I asked the waitress: Just what exactly does that mean? Is it a glorified larger yellow car ribbon? Do you ever have any people eating here that don't support the troops?

She was speechless. And said her boss had hung it up. I said to tell him I majorly support the troops, and I majorly want them home.:patriot:

Not a single one believes that even though the 9-11 commission has stated it to be a fact, they believe the terrorist in Iraq was the cause of 9-11. That really pisses me off.....

They're beyond help. I don't have pity for them either.Their ignorance, willful ignorance at that, indicts them. They are guilty of enabling Bush, so they're guilty of the crimes of Bush.

I talk to people who are willing to listen and those not eaten up with TB'er (true believer) disease.

How you managed to hold your tongue is awe inspiring though.

33. I'm with you
I used to like to debate on debate boards and this one board I used to go on there would be more rightwingers then leftwingers. I would aruge back and forth with them and they'd just keep going in this big circle and do nothing but talking points. When they weren't getting anywhere on their argument as facts they would start insulting me. This one girl made insults about where I live, my school, my professors and my family. I was really pissed off. The moderators didn't do much about it of course even though I did report them two/three times for it. Now days I just learn not to even bother because if they want to be ignorant let them. It's none of my concern because you can't change them. They have to do it on their own and nothing you'd say would have them admit they're wrong and you're right.

8. Problem is different set of "facts"
Daniel Patrick Moynihan said, "Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts."

This is the biggest problem we have. The GOP, PR firms, talk radio, and Fox News have polluted the information stream with fake facts.

If you and I are working from the same set of facts, but differ on values and priorities, there's still a chance that we can compromise because we will have SOME values in common for dealing with those facts.

If we don't even have the same facts, the chance of finding common ground are down to near zero.

13. Another point: I quit engaging them because I found they never make
claims. The make naked statements. When they want evidence they want another naked statement. One statement I read the other day- "Remember there is no difference between the democratic party and the communist party."
Uhhm...let's see what statement they have to confirm it. "Social Security is Communist." Or something like it? Asking them for proof of this claim would just end in another naked statement being made. (e.g. "Hillary Clinton is a communist. National Healthcare is communist.") Nothing we say will break them out of their little spincycle netherworld. The Dodo birds dissappeared themselves. So too will these dodos pass on.

14. Never argue with a fool, people may not know the difference
I live here in Jesus land (Dallas, Texas) and I encounter this crap daily. So, when I'm in line behind the dude buying quick pick lotto tickets and a six pack of beer, while he is bitchin' about the cost of gas, I start acting just like him - like an ignoramus. (I do this to amuse myself b/c I know I can't convert these morons) I say stuff like. Wow, thank goodness Kerry isn't "preznet" then we'd have to deal with those crazy tree huggers telling us to conserve gas. This place would really suck - like when Clinton was preznet. I usually get blank stares from the Bubbas. My friends try to contain their laughter. I love acting like a rube in front of those a - holes. Try the strategy, it might prevent you from having a heart attack. :banghead:

15. Its a stupidity thing
Call me an elitist, but I,too, have had it with the ignoramuses. Because reason does not work with people who have absolutely no interest in thinking about things in a critical way.

AND

These same people in many cases are IDEOLOGUES - They have a cause, they believe, God hates fags and immigrants are ruining the country - etc.

I don't argue, BUT sometimes I have started 'calling them out'.

Example: Woman I work with, Bushie, religious, racist, makes statement
"Well she's Hispanic, what do you expect?"

I say "That's a racist statement." period, no argument, just the facts. I don't back away, I don't raise my voice-- look her in the eye, when she makes another racist comment - I say "So this is about race again"

She's heard me, I've gotten through. She's not going to change, but at least I've called her on it, and she knows her statements are objectionable.

But I agree with you - I don't argue or debate, because it gets nowhere.

24. Both
National Geographic did a big survey and found that 70% of Americans (18-24) could not locate New Jersey on a map of the US. 87% could not find Iraq.
Combine that with the garbage that passes for "news" in this country and you've got our current situation where 45% of the population thinks Iraq attacked on 9/11.
Even when the 9/11 commission showed that Iraq was not involved, they still believe President Cheney's propaganda. Denial?

27. ignorance has been there - but now they
are represented by the president and and RW political power. This political machine has artfully developed an Ideology fused with religion, 9/11 backlash revenge(Iraq war, militarism), anti-gay rights, anti-immigrants. These issues together with political power that spouts off religion is a heady mix for the ignorants among us. It gives them credibility

It appeals to people because it is simplistic and above all (to them) morally right.

I can see how it has come about - but why - is more complex, but I have been reading things lately which talk about this situation being historically connected to the social upheavals of the 60's - a kind of cumulative political backlash, which is interesting.

and also what you mention-- the media, education as well.

28. There is no REAL public education.
The curriculum is intentionally dumbed down. World History? Comparative Literature? I mean, really. Who do you think sits on education boards in the red-state, rural-suburban area school districts? Look at what is going on in Kansas. Bill Maher told a story about attempts being made to change the actual definition of science to include other than NATURAL explanations. Comparative Religion course? I see I am not alone in my pessimism in trying to have a discussion with these people. The Jesus Corporation is in full force nationally.

His kids work 10 hours a day, six days a week. They are learning classics, economics, science, literature, history, geography and mathematics very intensively. He said our public high school was a farce by comaprison.
Of course this school is exclusive and expensive....
Works out perfectly for the ruling class.

22. They are cultists
that's why they cannot be reasoned with, imo. When you realize who is behind the programming, the Rev. Moon, master mind-controller, and all the other mind control freaks, it's easier to take.

I spent three years on a rightwing board, and I am soooo familiar with the language. At first I was stunned that so many people could all think so alike, say the same things, like 'you're a (freeper sp. = your) commie-loving, tofu-eating, volvo-driving, (when did that become a bad thing?) limp-wristed, panty-waist (what does that mean?) ignorant moron'.

There were variations, but day after day, one or other of them would repeat this litany. And they blamed Clinton for everything.

I found out after a while, where they got their talking points. Newsmax was a favorite source, Rush, Hannity, Savage, and the rest of the 'noise-machine'. Facts will never sway them. The only time they were speechless on that board was after the torture scandal broke. The talking points hadn't arrived in their email yet.

But, the following day, Rush gave them their new material, and they all breathed a sigh of relief when he told them it was all just kids letting off steam, college hazing, and anyway, (they loved this one, and repeated it often) what's so awful about panties on your head?'

I think the only cure for them, is deprogramming. I saw a show once that dealt with families who had to kidnap their relatives from cults, (one of them was Moon's organization). They hired deprogrammers ~ maybe we should be studying de-programming techniques to use when talking to them.

It was when I was an on line newbie and had AOL..so I was on their political message board. Being from TX I would try and tell people DON"T let shrub in the WH, he'd already fucked up TX, etc..

The freepers would look at some of the TX stuff I would post, say I was full of shit, "give us a link/article"..so I would...and not from biased websites, lots of it was from federal/state web pages with stats proving how TX had DROPPED on "good" lists and risen on "bad" lists under shrub's regime. Whatever freeper I would be arguing with would just, poof, disappear into cyberspace and stop responding. Ignorant dumbfucks...then, now, and forever.

32. I post on a freeper dominated board
Today they were discussing gay marriage and one of them compared it to interracial marriage. Then another dim bulb said well there were never any laws against interracial marriage. So I posted several links and proof that interracial marriage was illegal in many states until the late 1960s. The response I got was from another dim bulb who said well, he meant FEDERAL laws.

This is how it goes with them all the time. When you prove them wrong, they either call you a name or say you misunderstood what they meant. I tell them regularly that I never took mind reading in college. When they really can't argue with what I post, they like to label sources as 'biased'. Like the Wash Post, USA Today, CNN and of course that librul NY Times.

When I posted the MEMO story this week they said it was 'old news'. So I asked if that is why they were still blaming Clinton for every wrong they can and still claiming his sexual escapades ruined our country.

Every time I decide to stop posting on that board, one of them says something really stupid and you know, I can't just walk away from stupidity. :)

36. They'll blame Clinton like shrub blamed Ann Richards
Right up til his TX regime ended...the whole 6 yrs. Crappy TX student state standardized test scores? Not shrub's fault..it was all left over problems from Richards time in office, he'd say. Ok, well, 6 yrs is a looonggg time, chimp, 1/2 the kids who were in school under Richards are GONE and you have a new batch of kids and probably new teachers...and, gee, why are a shitload of schools being investigated for test cheating under your wonderful educational plan?
State money problems? Still her fault, per chimp. Ummmm, she left TX in the black, it was in the bright red zone and on financial empty by the time shrub got done.
So, yeah, he will be blaming Clinton til Jan 2009 and will probably have a "blame Clinton" wing in his Presidential library...located right next to the "blame Richards" wing, of course.

35. Used to be on Lords of Pain's "Sanctuary" board -
until the ones who got moderator jobs on it were two Suth'un Ah-HIGH-'n Republicans. Young ones at that, and them's usually the dumbest. They liked to quote NewsMax, Fox and World Net Daily for news, Cato and Heritage for economic stuff. Holy hell, the stuff that came out their shittin' holes wasn't smart enough to be stupid. One worried about the future of the democratic party for not embracing good Democrats like Lieberman, Biden and Zell Miller. It was literally comical tearing their horrid facts a new asshole almost daily and them saying not a GOT-damn thing in return. The arguments I liked the most was that I'm a "card-carrying commie" because that's what they called anyone who believed in any solution left of corporations getting their way seventy-googolplex fold like they do now.

The last straw was when one of them banned a liberal poster for no reason. Up with this bullshit I did not put, and found this place, where I have remained since.
