I think those are night vision, and thus if you use them during the day with the caps off, they don't work.

There are little pin holes in the front to let only a small percentage of light in, which makes them work.

and we've used them during the day before when the sun is just going down.

And you guys have to think that it's a photo op. He's not looking out the things to look out them, hes loking out them because someone told him to so photographers can take his picture.

Either way, it doesnt matter. If they are night vision, he's using them properly.
