Does anyone else visit FR as often as I do?
I'm a fairly new member here, but I have been making a habit of reading DU as well as FR every day for quite some time. I only visit FR to see what the other side is up to, but I have been noticing something very interesting. As always, DU have recent updates all the time, with discussion of most posts following. FR used to be that way too, at least in my opinion. Every time I visit I see the same posts, and there are never many responses to them. It's always things about the Minutemen, bashing Bush (just like us, apparently), Hillary Clinton scandals (WTF?), and other BS. No one really seems to discuss anything in detail, all the posts are very short, etc.
The reason I'm bringing this highly unscientific observation to everyones attention, is because I was interested in knowing if the powers that be here at DU monitor the number of posts, and the number of people logged in at any time, and if they kept these statistics for some time. Then I would be like to compare these stats to similar ones from severly RW blog sites. My hypothesis is that sites leaning to the "left" have been growing in popularity, while those leaning to the "right" (or "wrong" as fate would have it) having been declining.
I'm not volunteering to do the research, I have my own to do. But if someone has the information, they might be willing to do all the work for me. That's pretty much all, oh and sorry if I broke any rules with this post, I didn't read the rules very thoroughly before registering. In fact, I'm not one for harsh rules, which might explain why I'm a DU member in the first place. Happy numbers hunting!

1. Never gone there except if a post on DU suggests, but I don't...
...go there on my own.

4. I like to check them out fairly often
As Sun-tzu counseled, know your enemy.

You get a sense of where they're actually at, rather than where you think they're at. Sometimes the gap is surprisingly large.

I don't hold my nose, get into a rage, or puke in a bucket when I'm there. They're not worth the emotion. It's just politics -- I got better things to do most days than get all worked up over someone else's orthodoxy. Who knows, maybe some of them feel the same way about mine.

Peace.

5. It's a wonder they still have as many members as they do.
Dare to question the Idiot Son's actions, and they
ban you. A few months ago, several old-timers were
kicked out when they disagreed with Shrub's policy
toward illegal aliens. They ended up forming their
own online bulletin board.

You know, it's like their fearless leader once said...
"You're either with us, or you're against us."

Shades of gray are not welcome.

6. FR's not good for the blood pressure.
I'm generally depressed after reading a thread over there. I find it hard to believe that people will willfully defend the incompetence and anti-Americanism of Bush Republicanism. Too many people there cannot or refuse to connect the dots...I guess they can't admit their gullability or susceptability to being duped. I've read some threads over 500 posts long and marvel at the complete absence of intelligent thought. Pretty much a waste of time reading the mindless apologists.

I really wonder about their stats, too. I'm convinced that they freep themselves to make them look larger than they are.....I seem to see pretty much the same relatively small core of posters, makin the same inane points, over and over.

that the popularity of political websites would ebb and flow based on the party wielding the power. Free republic and other sites of that ilk were ascendant during the Clinton years. There just weren't that many leftist sites until 2001, like this place.

Just MHO. And welcome to DU. :hi:

8. I would occasionally go over there to see
how the other side lived until 9/11. After some of the posts I saw there I realized nothing they could say would be worth my time.

9. I went there once and it was very difficult to follow the flow
Their site just seems very amatuerish and hard to navigate. Not to mention I don't care for their attitudes or opinions. They just don't seem very pleasant people. Sorry you spend so much time amonst them. Tells us something about you as well..Peace

11. LOL Zorra! .."A portal to hell" is so appropriate!!
I don't go there either, but I read what others drag over here. The funniest thing I've seen in a looooooong time regarding them, was someone who posted pictures of their Freeper cruise in the lounge.

 :spray:  :spray:

The pictures cracked me up!!!!! ~~~

12. I'm back
I don't go there nearly as often as DU, and can usually only spend maybe 20 minutes or so, but not only because I get sick (often a side-effect of FR readership), but also because there's honestly maybe only 20 minutes worth of original readable material. I'm as liberal as they get though, don't worry about me straying from the ranks (I hope that doesn't sound too republican).

For those that requested some info about myself, i'm a grad student at Berkeley, studying chemical engineering. My dad was a bus driver, my mom is a school teacher, guess which one of the two was a republican. It seems to me that people become regulars around here, no doubt I'll eventually become the same :) Thanks, and keep up the good work everybody,

Brian
