Watching CBS News...Looks like Bushco is unraveling.
1st they start off with a story of the airplane and the evacuation of the White House and all and THE PRESIDENT WASN'T TOLD. They said Laura was taken into a bunker, Cheney evacuated and Bush* didn't have a clue it was happening. 'He didn't have a need to know'. His folks around him knew.....Then the story of Bolton getting thrown to the Senate without a recommendation and they painted it as a blow to the president. Then they moved on to Afghanistan exploding with Condi Rice calling for calm...The Iraqi dead on both sides going badly and Los Angeles erupting in gunfire...it just looked like the world has really gone to shit. Maybe just maybe the truth will become SO apparent everyone will see it? Maybe???

19. They're hedging their bets - Media are cowards. Rats off sinking ship.
They know the Republican machine is coming apart - you can always count on the media to be cowardly. It's time to gradually, delicately start distancing themselves from the cozy spooning relationship they've had with the white house for the last five years.

45. Well said. Bush is a lame duck, and suffering from severe 2nd term-itis
His stealth agenda is finally out on the table for everyone to see. Even the dimmest of the journalistic dim bulbs have started to flicker on. They're scratching their little pinheads and saying things like "duh" and "hey!" and "jeez" right about now. Suddenly the guy they all wanted to have a beer with is looking like a petulant little il Duce, nervously eyeing the lampposts. Blood's in the water. The sharks are circling. The next three-and-a-half years are going to be wonderful to watch--if we survive them, that is.

59. Yes but!
CBS has a score to settle. They were burned big time by Rove. I think they will jump faster on an negative bush story, than the other MSM networks. They will also be double sure of the facts from now on. I remember reading another post on this:

Then there's the little matter of Karl having taken a turd blossom sized dump on CBS. Well sure, we all know he can swing with the best of them, especially when he gets the first shot. But guess what? He didn't put the organization out of business. That's bad, for Karl. Why's that? Well, CBS has brown-stain like ratings now. What incentive do they have in towing the party line? Hmmm? None really.

Sure, the boards of directors of all MSM corporations cross pollinate (pollute) at some juncture. But what we have here is a failure to communicate between Karl's desires and horrible ratings that instantly equal MONEY in ad fees!

CBS may be down with drinking Rovestown punch. As long as the money's there. Guess what, Karl fvcked them with the Dan Rather execution and they've felt it in the wallet ever since. Someone in the chain of command noticed that the "payoff" Karl had to have promised them for axing Rather never came through. So guess what? Those same people have now said "fvck u fat boy!" And have started a large, very ugly boulder down hill on the collective neoCon backsides.

For those playing the home game you have to remember - Karl, bush, and the rest, can only stay in power as long as the media plays along with their game. The moment one of the MSM companies steps away from them and goes for the big dollars / ratings / prestige that the public will provide for outing them, all bets are off.

If we see CBS continuing this trend of attacking Karl and the neoCon bunch you can bet that others will soon follow.

These are from an archived DU thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=203&topic_id=330165

For some reason I remember this thread, and personally enjoy the idea of CBS waiting to get even, or get revenge. I hope he's right.

The CBS story about the suspected Rove-Gannon Connection in the Dan Rather story is here: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/02/18/opinion/lynch/main675050.shtml

and I quote from
http://rudepundit.blogspot.com/2005/05/stupid-fucking-republicans-rude-pundit.html

Why the fuck was the President of the United States biking on a wildlife preserve in Maryland in the middle of the goddamn day? Isn't there a fuckin' gym in the White House? And why the fuck wasn't he notified until after "the danger" had passed about a suspected attack on Washington, which caused evacuations, including his own wife? Wouldn't you wanna know if your wife was being threatened with death? Did they know it wasn't really a threat? Was it a show? Or did they just not want to face that stomach churning blank stare of his as he tries to figure out what the fuck to do, stuck sweaty in his shorts in the suburban wetlands?

Rude Pundit for fucking President!

16. All branches of government evacuated. The President is not informed?
Edited on Thu May-12-05 07:05 PM by Nordic65
(Sorry for reposting my own post from another tread)

RED ALERT (it doesn't go any higher than that) - The White House (including his wife for some 30 odd years and the mother of his children), The Capitol (both houses of Congress) and The Supreme Court are evacuated. All the Principals (except those at The Pentagon) are sent on their way to secure locations (even house minority leader Pelosi), and the President of The United States is not informed?

Aside for the fact that he, the President, was not in any personal danger, RED ALERT is an indication that somehow, some were, somebody actually felt that the present situation warranted a response akin to a big, fucking imminent terrorist attack on Washington DC. But he was not informed.

One possible answer is a temporary loss of communication between The White House and the President riding his bicycle (not very likely). Another, maybe more plausible, is a very bad call on the part of his entourage, to not inform the President.

Both options are equally disturbing for one fact, and one fact only - a whopping lack of chain of command. There is, in no way possible, that all options of response to this perceived threat excluded the involvement of the President. It's simply not believable. But still, he was not informed.

As it turned out, there was no danger. But who could have known? Once the really big, red, "expect the worst", alarm-button was activated, all options was laid on the table. And, as 9-11 showed, time is the single most important ting that you cannot waste in a situation like that.

Nobody, but nobody, knew for sure that this was a false alarm until the "All clear" was declared after some 10 - 15 minutes. By that time downtown DC could have been reduced to nothing more than a piece of rubble. Sure, there must have been standard operating procedures in place to allow action without the Presidents consent in such emergencies. But even so, to not inform him as soon as possibly, seems to me, like a total breakdown of the concept of responsibility.

One might ask; Why even bother to have a President if you don't even care to inform him of a possible imminent terrorist attack against his own residence?

Another valid question to ask is; What, if anything, warrants the attention of the President of The United States? Facing, in lieu of 9-11, a perceived clear and present danger to Washington DC, including all the major institutions of government, and you let him cycle on into the sunset as if nothing matters.

Who is this guy?

it shows me two things. 1) This whole ordeal was possibly staged. Why else wouldn't they do anything to tell him? 2) He is not the one in charge. 13. Two reasons bush wasn't told: 1. He'd fall off the bike. 2. He'd want to
look 'presidential' and do something 'powerful.' He'd have to be briefed first ... those in charge know what it takes to brief the dolt. Better to leave him out of the loop and let 'others' handle the crisis.

At which the main functions are protecting wildlife & habitat, plus research--not "recreation." There's an educational visitors' center. Also specified hiking trails & a trail reserved for a tram (for guided tours--& especially good for folks who aren't up to hiking). Bike riding is forbidden.

www.fws.gov/patuxent/NWVCTrails.html

The news showed the size of the "entourage" needed for the Presidential Field Trip--numerous SUV's & other vehicles. No doubt the refuge was closed to visitors that day. I only hope minimal damage was done to the fragile environment.

Said that he had said a lot of bad things about Michael Moore for that part in F9/11, but now it happened AGAIN!

and he (Cheney) was evacuated. There was no need to inform the puppet.

54. Him not being told just proves who is really in charge.
As long as Cheyney knew, the person in charge was told.

57. Seriously, doesn't he have more pressing issues than peddling a
bike at 11:00AM on a workday? How much time is he really on the job? Maybe, that's a good thing, though.

61. Do you really believe he was bike riding?
Come on now. An old boyfriend from HS shows up and you both go all the out to Camp David in the middle of the day. Then no one is willing to disturb you and your boyfriend even though DC has just gone to Red Alert and the Capitol is being evacuated. It doesn't take much imagination to figure out what was really going on, especially since they can't sneak Gannon into the WH anymore.
