LOLOL!!! "Army to offer 15 month enlistment instead of 4 years"
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Army will allow recruits to sign up for just 15 months of active-duty service, rather than the typical four-year enlistment, as it struggles to lure new soldiers amid the Iraq war, a general said on Thursday.

Yeaaaaaah they will let you right out after 15 months. No stop-loss provisions. Sign right here, suckers!

1. cannon fodder either way
3 months of training and 12 months with boots on the ground in Afghanistan or Iraq or _________? IF you life through that they'll find a way to keep you on in some sandy paradise, rest assured.

2. No way.
This turns out to be around a 9-10 year commitment, because being in the IRR means that you WILL get called at some point.

3. They should be able to train a quality soldier, use him, and release him
in fifteen months, right?

Geeze, I hope we aren't invaded until W is imprisoned.

Isn't this the very reason Rumsfeld called draftees USELESS
Edited on Thu May-12-05 05:06 PM by RamboLiberal
Googled his response.

Donald Rumsfeld's analysis of the Vietnam War has offended many Vietnam veterans, because according to Rumsfeld, draftees did not contribute much in the Vietnam War, despite 20,000 deaths by draftees who: "'added no value, no advantage, really, to the United States armed services over any sustained period of time, because (of) the churning that took place. It took (an) enormous amount of effort in terms of training - and then they were gone.'"(3)

4. key paragraph
"They will be offered the option of serving 15 months on active duty after completing their training, and then two years in the part-time Army Reserve or National Guard. The soldier then would spend nearly seven years in the Individual Ready Reserve, which requires no training and until recently was rarely mobilized, or serve in a program like the Peace Corps."

Do the math.

6. Sign up for 15 months, spent 3-4 months in Basic and AIT, a one year tour
of duty in Iraq, get stop-lossed, do another year in Iraq, come home, still under stop-loss, get rotated back into Iraq, etc.

LOL . . . sorry, the Army can't afford to offer a 15 month enlistment, the first 1/4 of it is just training, it's not feasible.

7. And offering $1,000 dollars to anyone already in for each person
they can get to sign up.

They have turned all the soldiers into recruiters by offering them extra pay ($1,000 per new or re-enlisted recruit).

9. 15 months...HaHa..
..."after training" meaning 2 months boot camp + 6 months AIT + 1 month leave+ 15 months active=2 years+2 years guard (which now ispretty much the same as "active" in some MOS's) AND 7 years IRR...I make your total commitment to be a hell of a lot closer to 15 years than 15 months!

I'd skip the 15 month offer to serve the civilian war criminals who only face the challenge of staying on a bicycle or not choking on a guckzel.

Peace.

31. I'm thinking that people should get very involved in their school
districts and insist they have parent/student meetings to discuss these types of contracts before anyone signs. Would be nice if there were lefty lawyers out there who would volunteer their time to these types of missions.
You can't have a wart removed in the hospital without being told you might die, it doesn't seem right that these people can be misled so wrongly and not have complete informed consent.

36. The "Try One" program worked well
Try one year, and after that, you we decide if you'll stay in or not.

I guess after the law suits from that program, they decided they needed something totally different. Hmmmm, maybe 15 months instead of 12, that's completely different!
