2. Take THAT, Lamar Alexander!
How can these jerks even TRY to assert that all of Bolton's shortcomings are OVERRULED by his qualifications?

"In spite of, not because of" -- PERFECTLY PUT, Senator O.!

19. Looks to me like it's going to go down to a party-line vote
to confirm and send to the full senate.

On the one hand, that's good news because it means that it's not over yet, there's still a chance to defeat him.

On the other hand...

4. Obama is destroying his 'qualifications'!
Bolton is just one of many Bush appointees who are uniquely UNqualified for their positions...

It's the Bush job creation program: "An idiot is a terrible thing to waste..."

"...a person will react in this position by analyzing their individual actions..."

HUH? Uh, that's kinda the purpose of the committee?

And "...the idea that John Bolton hates the UN - where did that idea come from?!"

HUH? He said "There is no UN"...if the building lost 10 floors, who cares???

and he's spinning the Smith and Westerman cases into 'concerns over proceedure'... arggh...

22. "BRILLIANT"????? At WHAT?
Driving people away? Inspiring fear in underlings?

This "kiss-up, kick-down" style is just exactly what IdiotBoy wants to foster in this country. He wants this place run like a fucking corporation, where people who have somehow risen due to their "BRILLIANCE" are permitted to just run roughshod over everybody else .. in this case, the rest of the world.

I don't care how "BRILLIANT" the guy may be, he has no right to treat people beneath or lateral to him in the way he has, and he should not be REWARDED for that behavior.

Twisted logic. There is no other word for it.

She clearly expresses all of her misgivings; then she turns it around to say, "Ah, that's okay. Now be a good boy, John."

Yeah, he's a good "C" student just like Our Braindead Leader. That's what we want running this country, just good ol' "average guys."

How do put a guy in with Bolton's background? He won't rally people to our side! Obama is absolutely right: all the human rights violators will be able to say, "He's a UN basher..." so how will we be able to press ANYONE to do ANYTHING?!!

Bolton did a crappy job doing arms control negotiations, and of course, let's promote his ass...

They're racing to get him out of State before he can do any damage there or cause Condi any embarrassment. And whatever Condi wants ... Condi obviously gets.

There's got to be some other place they can "kick this guy upstairs" to.....except the U.N.!

And he's correct -- being tough in some circumstances can be effective. But Bolton is like the boy crying wolf: His toughness won't have the desired effect because it'll probably be written off by other UN representatives as just his "standard operating procedure".

It's so obvious that that is the M.O. I pray they don't, but this nomination sends such a negative signal to the rest of the world that I won't blame them if they begin to treat us as a pariah nation.

But I keep hoping that they (Bush & Friends) truly are idiots and that they are just promoting their 'own', no matter what the cost... that they are not really planning to use Bolton as a 'nuclear option' in the UN...

But hey, I'm a pessimist... We are turning into Germany, and here we go! Vote the bastard in...
