A proposal
I woke today to the inevitable: my sycophantic senator, Chafee, is bowing to Bush on Bolton. It struck me that in the midterms we might be better served putting our time and money into getting rid of the moderate republicans (Chafee, Snow, McCain (who sadly also is untouchable for reasons never clear to me))for the following reasons:
1. They are moderate and were voted in with such politics, it should be easy to find a democrat with similar positions and since (s)he has them, (s)he could be appealing to the voters.
2. What matters are the chairmanships, so while I approve of Chafee's position on the Artic drilling fiasco his political position speaks louder than his policy one.

This seems like a "bite the hand that feeds me" strategy but it seems like the Delays of the world are out of reach for now and right now what we need is a majority (wouldnt it be wonderful to see what minority leader Fristie would say about filibustering).
Thoughts?

1. I felt the same about Bob Packwood when I lived in Oregon
So many women voted for him because he was pro-choice (even though his Dem opponents also were). I never did, because I saw him as a typical Republican corporation-coddler.

I was not surprised when he turned out to be guilty of sexual harassment, but I thought that he should have been kicked out of the Senate for his role in rewriting the tax code in 1986 to favor corporations over individuals.

2. I think we need to fight the fights we can win
In other words, the Demcoratic party has a finite amount of funds available for campaigning, Bill Clinton (and our other big names) can only be in so many places at at time. So we need to focus those finite resources where they will do the most good.

Specifically I think we should blow it all on buying a really bitchin' van and then drive around America solving crimes.

No, wait that's what I'm doing with the company funds. What I meant to say, is we should focus it on those places we can win. If Chafee is vulnerable, than, as much as we might like him better than, say, Tom Delay, we should still run a strong candidate against him and get him out.

If knocking Chafee out isn't likely, than I don't think we should blow a lot of money trying just because he's a moderate.
