Is it doomsday for pensions?
This is all the more distressing because it was written by Forbes Magazine.

In the future, will any company offer a pension? The answer is probably not, and the future is getting closer all the time.

1. First, they took away my health insurance, and gave me a "health
savings account," and I did nothing,
then they stole my Social Security, and I did nothing,
then they came for my pension . . .

2. Sure.
United just dumped a huge liability on the PBGC. They'll raise fees on companies that offer pensions. The chimpster has just increased the reserve requirements for pensions. So...companies will drop pensions left and right.

And the CEO's will take their $20,000,000 bonuses (for one year's "work"), while their employees struggle to make ends meet. Ultimately, between the ruin of Social Security and the loss of pensions, only the top 1% will be able to retire.

I hope people will remember this in 2006. I fear they will not.

3. In the long run, it could be a case for strengthening Social Security
In a major, very positive way. Gee, wouldn't that really piss off the silly Right Wing when their privatization efforts finally backfire?

4. Start playing taps
Pensions (and all other benifits) have been under attack for awhile, but I believe that they will all be gone by the time this administration is done.
