President Dwight D. Eisenhower calls bush "negligible" and "stupid".
"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history.

There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."

- President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 11/8/54

10. Oh, he knew the Bushes allright
(snip) Prescott Bush advised Eisenhower to run for President and then launched Richard Nixon into the Vice Presidency. Subsequently he was a major financer of Nixon's presidential campaign against Kennedy. Prescott Bush was an avid JFK opponent and Nixon has always been a puppet for the interests of the Bush family. 2. Good ol' Ike
Hearkens back to a day when Republicans were intelligent, rational and not beholden to whomever pays for their Scotland golfing junket.

What was that other great quote he had? Something like, "Every bomb that is dropped, every gun that is fired, takes food away from the mouth of a starving child." Anyone know the exact quote?

6. Such a sensible man.
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."

Also:
"When people speak to you about a preventive war, you tell them to go and fight it. After my experience, I have come to hate war. War settles nothing."

So many great quotes from him.

3. I think Ike had a sense of..
Self Preservation that rippled into the party. Keep in mind, he didn't impede into Macarthyism in the 50's, thus the witchhunt ensued his inaction. That aside, he saw war with his own eyes, and he knew exactly the consequences and decisions that are made. I never thought I would say this, but the mid 1900's wasn't too bad politically. I guess that was back when things still mattered to EVERYONE, not insiders and talking heads. I long for those days of national pride, not party pride.

8. Look how low the Republicans have sank
Eisenhower at one time was model for the Republican party. Not the "splinter" group that Ike warned us about is controlling the GOP and (I hate to say this) the nation.

9. "you would not hear of that party again in our political history." He
didn't know the Republican party of today. They can and will do anything they want to do.
