FINALLY! CNN: Bush asked to explain UK war memo
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Eighty-nine Democratic members of the U.S. Congress last week sent President George W. Bush a letter asking for explanation of a secret British memo that said "intelligence and facts were being fixed" to support the Iraq war in mid-2002 -- well before the president brought the issue to Congress for approval.

The Times of London newspaper published the memo -- actually minutes of a high-level meeting on Iraq held July 23, 2002 -- on May 1.

British officials did not dispute the document's authenticity, and Michael Boyce, then Britain's Chief of Defense Staff, told the paper that Britain had not then made a decision to follow the United States to war, but it would have been "irresponsible" not to prepare for the possibility.

The White House has not yet responded to queries about the congressional letter, which was released on May 6.

but had it right next to Molly Ivin's article on the Memo. So, we got a "two fer." It was yesterday's paper and Raleigh is the state capitol so it got "eyes." I and other NC Progressies sent it all around but it should have been on Page One and not buried back in International.

Rove is there controlling and blackmailing the republicans who are Senators they never will. Same in Congress. But on the good side there were three people in the House who didn't vote for the Real ID act who were republicans. Maybe we can get them to help John Conyers??

According to http://news.com.com/FAQ+How+Real+ID+will+affect+you+-+page+3/2100-1028_3-5697111-3.html?tag=st.num

the following republicans didn't vote for the Real ID act:

Howard Coble of North Carolina, John Duncan of Tennessee, and Ron Paul of Texas.

23. I'm wondering what exactly needs explaining.
"Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy."

I'm not sure how much clearer it could be. Maybe this is a sort of "Say it ain't so, George."

Let the media know we are doing their job. Print it down and spread copies everywhere. So the airline union trademarked "CHAOS". We've been doing it for a couple of years now, it is called chaos marketing. See AdBusters for more detail. Spread the message any way you can. We are the MEDIA. The MEDIA is not representing us the people, they gave up/sold out on the 4th estate of our government. Free press is us.

Thank you, Mr. Pitt!

Progressive Democrats of America Make National Call of Support for Congressional Letter Demanding Investigation of British Intelligence Leak on Iraq Invasion Strategy

(WASHINGTON, DC) — Rep. John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI), ranking minority member of the House Judiciary Committee, has released a letter signed by 88 fellow Representatives. The letter demands an investigation into the revelation that the American and British governments colluded secretly to manipulate intelligence as a means of justifying a decision to invade Iraq that had already been made. The Conyers letter and names of the House signatories can be read here:

http://www.house.gov/judiciary_democrats/letters/bushsecretmemoltr5505.pdf

The revelations came on Monday, May 2nd by way of a report published in the London Telegraph, which described a leaked British intelligence memo from July of 2002. The memo, stamped “Secret,” described concerted efforts by both British and American officials to “fix intelligence and facts around the policy.” The policy in question was the invasion of Iraq. The memo noted specifically that the invasion would be illegal if a justification were not found or created.

33. This is like watching life
Through the looking glass of a toilet bowl reflection. Okay, so let us see what we have learned:

1). Write letter
2). Ask questions about Chimp's lies
3). Be ignored
4). Write more letters
5). Ask the same questions about Chimp's lies
6). Be ignored
and so forth... until Scottie says "not true" and then move on to next story... we know the drill.

Let us bypass the whole "asking" and just present the facts... woo hoo, CNN, "report the facts" you don't need permission from the white house or answers. I mean really, you are asking a liar to admit to lying?

38. This is what will happen: NOTHING.
Every time a scandal comes along we think "this is it, this is the one" and a couple of months later we're looking for the next scandal. The Teflon president and his cronies put their fingers in their ears and sing "La,la,la,la-la" until each scandal goes away. They do not acknowledge it, they do not explain, they do not answer questions. It's like Bolton and the State Department information. Apparently State has been told to clam up and even Senators can't get requested information. They pretend whatever they don't like isn't there and, as predictably as snow in winter, it eventually goes away. Remember the Bulldog.

46. The story has changed
Keep this in mind: "the story" is no longer the memo itself, or even the Congressional letter.

The story is the WH refusal to answer the important questions posed in the letter.

The story now is, what are they afraid of? Why not answer? What are they hiding from the American people?
