Check out the approval ratings for all 50 governors!!!
Edited on Wed May-11-05 08:00 PM by ailsagirl
http://www.surveyusa.com/50governorsrated051005.htm

Most potential Republican Presidential candidates look terrible. Bush (FL) is at 49/46, Romney (MA) is at 41/51, Barbour (MS) is at 37/55, and Pataki (NY) is at 36/56. Barbour is particularly toxic, considering how conservative Mississippi is. I have no idea why Republicans are supposedly urging this guy to run for President if the good people of Mississippi hate his guts. Even Schwarzenegger is at 40/56, and looking very vulnerable. The only Republican Governor with Presidential ambitions who comes out alright is Owens, with a solid 54/38.

Western, but not West Coast, Democrats are shining. Freudenthal (WY) is at 67/20, Napolitano (AZ) is at 59/32, Henry (OK) is at 59/30, Schweitzer (MT) is at 58/27, Sebelius (KS) is at 54/34, and Richardson (NM) is at 54/39. That is a sick 59/30 average! Can there be any doubt that the party need to move left, I mean west?

Ohio's Bob Taft is at 19/74, which is spectacularly bad. The least popular Democrat is Christine Gregoire of Washington. She ran a craptacular campaign, eeked in via the recount, and the controversies surrounding that mess are probably dragging her down. Her victory may very well have been phyrric. Oregon's Ted Kulongoski is the second least-popular Democratic governor at 36/48. And we all know what happened to Gray Davis, who would be bringing up the rear if he was still in office. It's shocking that such solidly Democratic states can produce such pathetic governors.

And then there's Arnold: 40/56.

1. And sadly, in MN it's twofold:
1. The Stadium bill, after YEARS of being turned away because it was unfair for taxpayers to pay for Pohlad's pettiness, has passed a major hurdle...

2. Timmy No-Tool's popularity is still 54% (though the MN media said 56%)

5. Ohio's Taft is last
With a stunning 19% approval rating.

How could that be? All the presstitutes in Ohio told us that re-electing Bob and giving control of Ohio to the Repubs would be a good thing?

7. Al Franken was in Sacramento today and everytime he mentioned
Arnold, the audience booed. There wasn't a single cheer or clap for the Governator. I think he'd better run, not walk out of Sacramento when his term is up.

11. In all fairness, Franken's audience is not exactly a random opinion sample
I'm not surprised that Franken is only pulling from the other 60% in California.

13. I would say it's mostly liberal, but Franken has fans
who don't go see him for his politics but his comedy, so those fans would be in the audience too. I just thought it was funny that not a single clap or cheer was heard. That's one unpopular governor. Remember when they tried to make us believe that Arnold was popular with both liberals and conservatives because he was liberal on a lot of issues? This would indicate that liberals are not liking him at all.

I wonder if he will bring up Arnold tomorrow again in SF? This should be interesting.

12. Colorado's Governor will likely run.
Don't be fooled by his approval rating! he just got back with his wifey after having an OPEN and widely publicized affair with a woman he took out to dinner while married on a regular basis. Apparently they used some sort of mind eraser on all these Godly freepers, cause they were pissed several years ago when the scandal broke. Owens has a way about him that makes him look like Mr. Rogers. In fact he actually does look like a younger version of Mr. Rogers. Truthfully, I hope the Dem's are working on something to depuff him as we speak. I think he could fool a lot of people!

15. Wisconsin
That survey had Gov. Doyle (D) at 41% approval, but a new poll just had him at 62%. Seems to be outside of the margin of error if you ask me. Let's hope that it's 62% because Congressman Mark Green from Green Bay has announced that he's running against him next year.

16. Robert Byrd is my hero. I called him today to say so. I wish he
would move across the state line to Kentucky. He is sponsoring a bill in the senate (S576), which will reverse the outrageous bill which was promoted by none other than our Minority leader, Harry Reid. Byrd's bill is designed to protect the totally innocent wild horses and burros which roam the western grasslands. It seems that these magnificent creatures, that were here long before we had a country, were eating some of the practically free grass that western ranchers have set aside (on public land) fro their very own use. Please call, write, e-mail, any etc. your senators and reps and insist they protect these animals. This was stuck on some mammoth bill so that noone would notice and object. Some of these free-spirited and wonderful animals have already ended up dog food.

29. I'm so-o-oo with you on the wild horse issue
What Reid did was despicable and I will never, EVER support him because of that. It's unconscionable.

Glad to hear others feel the way I do.

I've been keeping up with the issue as best I can but sometimes it's just too damn painful.

Again I will say it: what Reid did is an outrage and never, ever will I forgive him for that.

oh sure, he and oregon's Ted Kulongoski both have a 36% approval, but Blago's got a DIS-approval rating of 54% to Ted's measly 48.

18. Woo Hooo! Missouri's prom king is 3rd from the bottom! 33% approval rate
He's tried to cut everything from medicare to a program that helps disabled preschoolers. He's also a fundie idiot. Next on the agenda for Matt Blunt? Vouchers.

He is such a tool. And he beat Claire McCaskill, the most effective auditor our state has ever had.

Wake-up, Missouri!

and us still beating the bushes, so to speak, for a candidate in '06.

Then again, one cultural characteristic I've noticed out here is the tendency to rate pretty much everything highly, even in the face of objective evidence to the contrary. In Pidgin it's called "no talk stink".

Edit: Six of the top nine are repukes. Eeeeeeeuuuuwwwwwwww! :puke:

23. Mitt Romney wouldn't win Massachusetts in a federal election anyway.
Pataki likely wouldn't win NY. I don't think he could even win the nomination, Southern domination of the GOP being what it is today.

Haley Barbour (this is the first time I've heard him mentioned as a candidate) would win MS in the general election against pretty much any Democrat but Zell Miller.

And Jeb? All he needs is to do is remove a few thousand "potential felons" from the voter rolls and Florida is his.

I am encouraged by the numbers but as far as a national race goes, I don't fully grasp their significance.

Tennessee Phil Bredesen D 52% 40%
