Before everyone gets all wound up over the Capitol 'attack' story...
Edited on Wed May-11-05 12:18 PM by WilliamPitt
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/capital

"A communications breakdown led federal officials to believe the plane might be targeting the Capitol, but it turned out to be carrying Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher, who had been cleared to fly into the area."

DC is a high air-traffic area...and clearing out the Capitol when there is a mistake like this is just prudence. Unless Kentucky is attacking DC.

Tomorrow's scare will be live jaguars falling from the sky or something. But for now, deep breaths.

27. In every joke there is some truth
Some people suspect that Ms. Willbanks' most embarrassing moment was that one time when she left town unannounced, right before her big wedding, so she could gamble in Las Vegas. Then, after she saw the news of her disappearance on TV, she gave herself a piss-poor haircut to avoid being recognized, just so she could continue gambling. After losing most of her money at roulette, she took a bus to Albuquerque, looking for a hot New Mexican man to do it with. She soon found an Albuquerque plumber named Diego Alvarez, who rejected the desperate white chick with the bad haircut. She swore vengeance on Alvarez, and called police with an elaborate story that he had kidnapped and raped her.

16. Same governor, same scenario, last year
Washington Post article dated July 8, 2004:

Plane That Caused Capitol Evacuation Nearly Shot Down

By Spencer S. Hsu
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, July 8, 2004; Page A01

The top general at the North American Aerospace Defense Command was on the telephone and prepared to order an F-16 fighter to shoot down an unidentified plane that turned out to be carrying the governor of Kentucky to former president Ronald Reagan's funeral last month, according to two federal security officials briefed separately about the incident

The tense incident June 9 ended after the twin-engine Beechcraft King Air carrying Gov. Ernie Fletcher (R) turned to land at Reagan National Airport. But the close call caused officials to reassess safeguards for the airspace around Washington and prompted calls to expand the no-fly zone beyond its current 16-mile radius.

from his bio:

Governor Fletcher’s service to our nation began in the United States Air Force, where he served as an F-4E Aircraft Commander and NORAD Alert Force Commander. As a fighter pilot, he led flights that intercepted Soviet military aircraft during the Cold War.

Perfect candidate for this job, but why the repeat performance?

It scared people, and that was the point of it. Most people will probably never know, or want to believe, it was a big orchestrated hoax meant to scare them to death. Never let the people forget how scared they are supposed to be living under a regime of mob rule, terror and all.

40. That's not what is said in the article
WASHINGTON - The U.S. Capitol and White House were evacuated Wednesday after a small plane entered restricted airspace. Military jets scrambled to intercept the aircraft and fired warning flares. Two men in the aircraft were later taken into custody at a Maryland airport where the plane landed after a military escort.

"This appears to be errant pilots," said Capitol Police Chief Terence Gainer. He said the plane "was on a straight-in shot toward the center of the Washington area."

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the plane came within three miles of the White House.

Nowhere Gov. Ernie Fletcher is mentioned.

48. Will Pitt's Link Updated:
In the most dramatic incident since the Sept. 11 attacks, thousands of people fled the Capitol, packed with members of Congress and other dignitaries, when a plane flew into the restricted air space just before the funeral procession for President Ronald Reagan last June.

A communications breakdown led federal officials to believe the plane might be targeting the Capitol, but it turned out to be carrying Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher, who had been cleared to fly into the area.

~~~~~~
Gov Fletcher incident was last June, not today.
