1. Look to governors
There's already noise of governors across the political spectrum refusing to adhere to Real ID.

6. I can't find the link right now
but the important thing would be to contact your state's governor and express your feelings.

The civil liberties issue aside, this is an additional financial and legal burden on each state.

2. Lots of it can be amended and changed.
Citizens are going to have to work like they have never worked before to do so. If they want it.

7. It was passed into law today
along with the Emergency Supplemental finance bill for the Iraq war and Tsunami aid. I don't know when it takes effect.

Now we have to figure out how to get it voided or changed. It's a HORRIBLE piece of legislation that NEVER should have been added to the emergency supplemental.

Many senators today complained about it being added to the supplemental by the conference committee without the senate being able to debate and vote on it as an amendment.

8. OK, I just read...
...on The Raw Story that the Real ID passage was NOT in the bill passed, but the Republicans were planning to add it in when it goes into conference (with the Democrats locked out).

http://rawstory.com/exclusives/alexandrovna/dems_locked_out_real_id_428.htm

The quote to look for is "the Senate version does not contain REAL ID but it is expected to be added during negotiations."

So don't damn the Senate Democrats, they didn't vote for this crap!

9. That article was dated 4/28...
What the senate voted on today was the version that came out of the conference
