Wednesday May 11, 2005 3:23 AM

~snip~ The US Secret Service is investigating after a device - thought to be a hand grenade - was thrown at George Bush in Georgia.

Sources in the US said the device was thrown as the US president gave a speech to tens of thousands of people gathered in the capital Tbilisi's Freedom Square
It is believed to have landed about 100ft from Mr Bush, but he was not harmed. ~snip~

10. Especially the person who "blocked" the pitch.

I just don't know. I mean, it wouldn't surprise me if someone tried to do it. But, how on earth the Secret Service would NOT KNOW until after they got back to the US,...is really messed up.

edit: okay, i just saw a clip of this on the nightly local news. No word of any injuries on the report. There was a large crowd of a thousand or 2, or 3 i would guess.

curious that we aren't hearing a report on injuries?

11. Here's an Aussie report on it.
They call it a 'possible' grenade. What is that? They DO say that it did not detonate.

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=50131

AP - The US Secret Service says a possible hand grenade was thrown toward a stage in Georgia where US President George W Bush was giving a speech.

A spokesman says US authorities were informed by Georgian security forces that an object had been thrown at the stage where Bush had been speaking in the capital Tbilisi.

The device landed 30 metres from the stage and failed to detonate.

8. It was probably a plastic tomato from a Halliburton Thanksgiving dinner
hurled by a low ranking Bushist, part of a plan to make Americans think the big brave Bush is endangering himself and we'd better rally around him.

9. Yes, they do seem to have the cheap PR stunt business figured
out. That's a compliment, I guess, so you can't say I never have anything good to say about *

17. Been mulling this one over and what keeps popping up in my twisted
wee brain is the word we heard from Viet Nam. Keep wondering about the connection and the message.

Fragging? Can't get that one out of my head. The ordinance did not go boom so it wasn't an attempt at anything but getting a message across near as I can figure. But what the hell was the message?
