how to apply freud's concept of human psyche to his critique of religion?
i should provide a disclaimer that i possess only a basic understanding of freud, so bear with me here please :)

it is quite obvious that freud does not have much use for religion; in 'the future of an illusion' freud equates religion to the obsessional neurosis of children, calling it the universal obsessional neurosis of humanity

so my question is, how can we take freud's concepts of the human psyche (the id, the ego, the superego) and his anxiety and ego-defense mechanisms theories, along with his theories of psychosexual development and apply them to his critique of religion?

is my question too broad? i can be more specific if you like...any freud people here?

I would love to know how some famous and infamous folks would score on these tempermant test.
Introversion(I)/Extraversion(E)
Intuition(N)/Sensation(S)
Thinking(T)/Feeling(F)
Perception(P)/Judgement(J).
9Kiersey Myers & Briggs) I am an ENFP
Ya got to wonder who might be an ESTJ etc. It really is a great book-fun, insightful and does seem pretty right on, everyone I know who has taken the survey. I would bet most hard core far fetched righties would fall within a couple groups.

8. interesting question
I imagine that Freud would explain all this religious revivalism as a form of regression in the face of individual powerlessness and frustration, which, of course, is shrewdly manipulated by crooks like Bush and Rove, who are responsible for it in the first place.
