Theory on the "grenade" story
Here's my theory: We all know Bush has been treated like the demon he is when he goes overseas, where people with actual critical thinking skills and a real media know who he is and aren't as susceptible to the Pravda-like pro-Bush propaganda we have rammed down our throats on a daily basis.
This latest trip was different -- cheering mobs, large crowds, etc.
What a great visual -- now, Rove must be thinking, how to make it last longer? how to make these glowing images shoot around the world?
Isn't an "attempt" on Bush's life the perfect foil?
It will force the media to ruminate on it, show the positive background footage and have all the pundits marvel at what a wonderful trip this was and how out of place this act of hostility seemed.

Whatever did happen, we do know this: It's not what they're saying. I would believe nothing from this crowd.

1. Wow
I opened this thread thinking "oh great, here comes some wacky far-fetched explanation" yet finished the thread thinking "shit, that's actually probably right!"

Nothing would surprise me anymore, and your explanation is actually logical.

7. We'll be the only ones clued into reality!
Seriously, if "conventional wisdom" is any gauge, the people here on DU are far more tethered to reality than the inside-the-Beltway whores, the religiously insane Falwells and Dobsons, and the mindless sheep who accept everything they're told and question nothing.

3. I agree
And why didn't the SS know about it until AFTER * had left, for sure they would have noticed the commotion 100 ft. away over a GRENADE!

6. More on this theory...
check out all the "news" websites. Grabbing top headlines, plenty of photos of Bush in front of "30,000 cheering Georgians." Not a whole lot about the grenade though.

5. Exactly!
I'm 55, but I still remember when Kennedy spoke inpromptu or in a speech, everyone listened, because you knew what was being said was coming from his heart....his head. For the most part the same thing can be said of Clinton. You trusted what was being said.
But, when the monkey speaks it's a given that what is being said is the result of one of many meetings headed by Karl Rove in a secured room at the Whitehouse.
Do I believe that? I would literally stake my life on it.

8. The clay (all right, dirt) in the master's hands... shaped and
molded into a hero, an icon, a legend, erasing the flawed corners and edges of the past, renewing the coutours created by mangled english, poor choices, self righteous blathering and idealistic fundamentalistic mindforms, seeking to cement the subject in his insecure, chaotic illusions...

Thus the master works to create something from nothing... how well he plies his trade.... the audience never even notices the strings... never hears the puppeteers chidings.... never gets a glimpse beyond the glass of koolaid handed out to the thirsty, those who seek truth, and are fed misconceptions, half truths and spin.

When we awake from the delusion, we will see the collusion, shatter the illusion, and find a better, sustainable solution.

9. CBS News reported tonight that the White House orchestrated that rally,

even designed the flags that were placed behind the speakers' platform. (Flags were actually people in colored clothes that huge "flags" for the visuals). Watch the papers tomorrow, I bet they will be front page images. The grenade story as you theorize is easy to believe.
