They couldn't have helped Andy -- as you'll read, they're not set up for such monumental need -- but they help a lot of people with little "last-straw" needs.

That's how I look at them: You're living hand to mouth and struggling mightily, and suddenly, the engine in your car blows and it is the. last. straw. That's one of the reasons Modest Needs is there -- and that doesn't even scratch the surface.
