For all who whine that the DNC is spineless and “should do something”
For all who whine that the DNC is spineless and “should do something”

There are three posts in GD based upon DNC 5/9 press releases. All have detailed plans for action, and one provides several ways you can make an impact.

All have sunk like a stone. Over the past two hours, collectively they have received 4 replies.

I ask you to read and take action on:

1. They need to stop "releasing" things and start SAYING it on TV.
You cant "release" stuff and just expect the RW media to repeat it for you.

You have to go on TV, radio, op-Eds, etc and say it yourself.

Only ones I ever catch are on C-span.

Were they on at the same time as information on the British memo?

17. I've seen several Kerry & Dean appearences on major interview shows.
Are we saying that they have recently been banned or somthing?

Would Wolf Blitzer, Judy Woodruff, Russert etc REALLY turn down a Hillary, kerry, Obama interivew? Do you have info that this is occurring?

Even in formats where they are "allowed" they are not talking about the memo.

Have the Top DEMs like Dean, kerry, etc even done the minimum & "released" a statement yet?

Obama & Durbin were interviewd on Air America last week and they did not even mention the memo.

We can do more that just "release" info and hope the GOP owned media will repeat it for us.

7. Agreed.
The DNC relies too much on their "members" to get the word out. They need to take a page from the repuke playbook and stump for themselves more.

8. Then they point back to it when folks complain they are not doing enough..
"Didn't you see our releases on the internet? Didn't you get that email? Didn't you read that thread on DU about that No-name congressman who spoke out on CSPAN???"

They need to speak out so EVERYONE can hear- not just to the donor base.

Specifically, I'd like Dean & the DNC to speak up & take a position on the New UK Iraq Memo inquiry.

They make over 100K, they need to get off their ass and earn it.

10. I get all my information from the internet. I can't look at tv news - it
makes me sick to my stomach. I have to walk out of the room when my Dad turns it on. I don't read newspapers for the same reason. If I want propaganda, I'll just listen to Bush. The Democrats have to come up with a good news supply line.

11. I DO whine 'cause there's so much more the Dems can do
It's like Dr. Fate said, they can be holding press conferences to debate their stance, calling radio stations and CHALLANGING them to have a discussion on air....and not the least, they can STOP letting these other organizations (MoveOn.org; TrueMajority.org; pfaw.org) fight their battles for them!!! The Dems need to show those brass ones we know they have. Polish 'em up, get them out into the fresh air (so to speak). Be the men and women who have the power and authority to do what you were voted into office for.

13. Well- the media will not cover their press conferences. BUT-
Edited on Tue May-10-05 01:55 PM by Dr Fate
Kerry had plenty of them and they really were ignored. But all of his interviews got played.

The media will allow the Top DEMs to go on those interview & debate shows.

The could also go on local radio & TV stations too- plenty of Cub-Journalists would have them. (Some DEMs are doing this)

Then again, if DEms made very :hot", pointed, contorversial statements at their press conferences, it might get a little play.

16. That's the thing. You'll never get in the papers or on TV by saying...
... "We like apple pie, too."

They need to develop some talking points with real punch. Stake out a position, come up with some simple language to explain it, then get out there and speak your piece.

I was thrilled to hear Dennis Kucinich use the "L" word the other day -- Bush lied us into Iraq. Hopefully, more Democrats will follow his lead and begin to speak the plain truth, however uncomfortable it makes the focus groups feel, no matter the bluster and feigned outrage from the repukes. Stand by the truth, and shout it out loud.

20. The talking points
From the same website.

Talking Points:

The Senate has approved 95 percent of Bush's judges, with Democrats blocking only a handful whose records place them far outside the mainstream.

Republicans want to break the rules and turn the Senate into a rubber stamp for the President.

Republicans want to end a 200-year tradition and upset the checks and balances that have kept our democracy strong.

Bush and the Republicans want to pack the court with judges who will roll back equality, liberty, and individual rights of all Americans.
By a margin of 2 to 1, Americans oppose Republican attempts to change the rules.

18. They (the repukes) have point men and women who are out there
making themselves targets by spouting off ridiculous and outrageous propaganda that everyone knows is propaganda, but it gets attention. Folks like Coulder, Limbug, Fallingwell, and Herr Robertson are out there getting attention and taking the heat for their ridiculousness. They are clowns, but they GET THE MEDIA'S ATTENTION!!!!!!

Then the so-called "cooler heads" of the republican elite are given time and space on TV and radio and asked about the outrageous stuff the clowns have said and they get their views aired.

The clowns are the foot in the door of the media. We need more clowns on our side willing to take the heat for their outrageousness, so they can open the doors for the cooler heads of the liberal elite. It's all entertainment and it ain't gonna change. WE - Dems/Liberals/Progressives NEED TO ADAPT TO THE REALITY OF THE SITUATION!!!!

END OF RANT

This is sad, but true.

There is some truth to the situation that the Dems aren't doing anything.

But guess what. We aren't in power. What the hell are they going to do?

The only thing that may help at this point is if the DNC gets a party line, talking points, and repeats them OVER AND OVER via the pointmen mentioned above.

Bumper Sticker politics work. Republicans aren't stupid. They understand this.

Unfortunately.

Dems dont.

We are being screwed, but on the bright side they need to face us for support for re-election.

p.s. I started this thread before this afternoon's 100-0 vote accepting the conference report that included the real id provision, and am sickened! See lalarawraw's thread in GD.

26. Have done all & rec'd emails from my rep's/Senators even today
I let my Reps/Senators know I'm behind them on these very issues. Several emailed me today. 1 always sends a follow-up letter and all three are stomping mad, fighting all the issues.

Sarbanes
Mikulski
Just to name a few.

With you there. Everyone, let your Senators know you're behind them. They need us now as much as we need them up there fighting for us.
