Why the average American doesn't give a shite
Edited on Mon May-09-05 06:49 PM by Ugnmoose
Who cares that we are killing an average of 2 soldiers a day over in Iraq? Who cares that we are dropping money in Iraq faster that crap through a goose. Who cares that Bush lied to us about the need to go to war. Nobody really except the people who are in the military, the families of people who are in the military and us (the small but vocal activists). Why is this you might ask? After all shouldn't the average American be up in arms screaming to the rafters for heads to roll? Yeah I know let's blame it on the mainstream media for the dumbing down of America. Well yes the media is certainly complicit, but more significant than that is the fact that most Americans are not directly touched by the war. Unlike Viet Nam when conscription existed, right now everyone from draft age on up is getting a freeby on this one. No buy in and no personal sacrifice means: I don't care. Until Americans are truly faced with having to "pay" for this fiasco in ways that hit their pocketbooks directly or touch their families directly they will continue to be the silent majority. You will only see a change if something drastic happens. It could be sky-rocketing oil prices, it could be reinstatement of the draft, it could be a global financial collapse. But it will have to be very very painful before the cabal wake up and take it to the streets. I know, I was one of those protesters back in 1969 whose passion overtook discretion, but it was all worthwhile, because the personal sacrifice of possibly losing my life in some God forsaken rice paddy was not going to be worth it. Today just substitue God forsaken dusty desert. Americans today have it too good considering the mess we are in. As long as the pols can keep pulling the wool over our eyes and get away with it they will. Our only hope is to do just what we are doing. Take every opportunity to inform our friends and families of the sham of this Administration and to lobby the media, the politicians and anyone of any influence to let them know that we know and we will not stand idly by.

1. I can sum it up in five words:
They don't have to go. (or is that six words?)

With universal service or a draft, a country doesn't have as many war supporters.

Sad but true. The general populace is gullible and really believes the propaganda that the troops are "protecing us" in Iraq.

2. we often talk about conservative and their lack of intellectual curiosity
and a dangerous lack of ability to see shades of grey.

i have lamented here on numerous occaissions that we don't talk about the character of the american people.

and i will make this lament again -- no they don't care.
americans, as a whole, seem to be a brutish bunch.
why can't we talk about that in ourselves?

yes it's shameful -- but necessary if we are to evolve isn't?

i mean from the genocide of native people to the rape of africa, the invasion of the phillipines, the inability of
{many} american intellectuals to see the out and out wrong of our military action in afghanistan and iraq.

it's a litany, it's a fucking epic poem to our inability to gauge ourselves -- from the middle class straight up the ladder.

3. Revenge is sweet...
...and it may finally be that revenge has now been satiated? What am I saying?

9/11 unleashed a latent lynch-mob mentality embedded within the American people. It wouldn't of mattered who was in the way, America set out to revenge the situation.

We can only hope America has had her fill, indeed, 50% seem to be saying so. Lets hope we do not get another case of the jitters.

4. You are correct:, most just don't care. I wish we could focus on the
solvency of Social Security as a direct result in $300 billion being spent on this hellish war. And how do we argue with those who have been brainwashed in their churches into believing that this is the Lord's work? I truly believe that Americans are the most arrogant and selfish population in the world. Everyone is so programmed into 'individualism' and the hell with everybody else, that they are too preoccupied in their own lives to care about anything that faces us as a nation.

5. I think the majority of us
care--but don't know how to get our opinions to the politicians.

6. You are wrong! It's not about the "average American". It's about,....
,...the insidious manipulation by the corporacrats.

If the "average American" knew what our "Corporacracy-In-Charge" has been doing over the last forty years,...they would be outraged. If they knew that the same corporacrats were waging an oppressive economic battle against them,...they would retaliate.

The corporacrats aren't honorable or principled, compassionate or balanced,...they are parasites, human parasites.

8. The Lame Stream Media is as corupt as the..
Bush Junta. The Govt. and Congress are complicit with the Multi-Corps. I keep saying that Amerika is an Oligarchy. No one has challenged me on that notion. Is that because all who read that are in agreement or they are not and just ignore my view?

9. They accidentally sold their souls,....having been USED by,....
,...via the corporacrats' (let us call them what they really are,...FASCISTS) best skill: EMOTIONAL BLACKMAIL. If you have any weakness, they will foster.

The media and all those who participated became weak the day they chose profits over principles,...and THAT day was an evolving one.

Approximately forty years of bit-by-bit loss of any principle or intregrity equals THAT day the last remaining contributor to an ideal called "democracy",...was on a death bed.

10. There are two groups of people that will listen to you.
The first is part of the far left, and will agree with you on all counts as long as you're on their side.

The second, larger part hear "Lame Stream Media," "Bush Junta," and "Amerika" and have already put you out of their minds by the time you get to your point.
