A Single Mother's Response to “Where’s Your Man?”
A Single Mother's Response to “Where’s Your Man?”
8 May 2005

You learn to live with it. It goes with the territory.

One would hope however, that by the year 2005 we would be advancing women’s rights instead of turning them backwards. But, the fundamentalists are on the move and their aim is to keep the “little woman” in her place.

1. an apt reply for a "not so great" man... "Tossed him out with the rest

Rather than leave the day with a rant, here's a historic view of Mother's day worth sharing as well...

Honoring the Mother Throughout History
8 May 2005

Thousands of years ago, the Goddess was revered around the world as the embodiment of “The Great Mother.” She had many names and many guises but from the dawn of humankind and history, “The Great Mother” was once revered by all. It was widely believed that She gave birth to our planet and it was She who mothered all living things and sustained us.

I understand fully that this notion is now anathema to many in the world. However well documented this piece of history is, many decry such notions that woman would be held in such esteem and that any entity other God would be responsible for the creation of all things. The great tradition of honoring the mother however stems from this history and has been morphed from the ancient traditions of the Goddess.

I could write volumes about the history of the Goddess and the role of the mother in world, but today as we struggle with daily reality of the war in Iraq, I feel that recalling more recent history, is in order.
