Enron: the Smartest Guys in the Room
Enron: the Smartest Guys in the Room

Looking for a nice Mother's Day movie to treat mum to? How about a movie that details the biggest corporate scandal in American history?

See...

Hubris unbound by any sense of morality. Profit exalted above ethical accounting. Greed that blinded floor traders to the effects of 'rolling blackouts' that were synthesized to discredit Gray Davis, and extended because President George Walker Bush wouldn't step in with price freeze legislation.

Hear...

Enron Floor Traders talk about how they would step on fellow traders' throats if it led to a bigger, better commission that day. Ethical accountants explain how they tried to raise red flags about Enron, but were colluded against, and sent to the back of the bus! Wage Earners who invested every penny in 401ks that consisted mainly of Enron stock, and how they could not sell their stocks while Skillings and Lay cashed millions in options.

Watch...

Jeff Skillings lie in front of hearings, under oath! Barbara Boxer kick corporate ass! Ken Lay slither, and deny! Stock prices tumble!

Enjoy...

A very professionally produced documentary that puts a coherent explanation afloat in some of the muddiest corporate waters to ever be seen. The visuals are very well crafted, the choice of music is appropriate, catchy, somewhat kitschy.

All in all, the film is highly enjoyable despite its nearly two-hour length, and you will get more money for your return than Enron stock.

And finally, it really makes Privatisation of Social Security seem like a bad idea, becuase after all, people are a greedy, selfish lot. Couple that with collusion by 'free market' entities that are supposed to be supplying some checks and balances, and you have a recipe for disaster.
