The meek have indeed inherited the earth, as the Bible says.
The second half of the twentieth century saw the rise of India and China as economic powers ona global scale. That inspiring story which has transformed the lives of 40% of humanity must be ranked as a biblical prophesy come true. After having been basket cases under various domestic and foreign tyrants, these two ancient civilizations have embarked on a journey to educate, feed, clothe and empower their people to undertake more challenging enterprises.

We in America must welcome this and the developments in Latin America and the rest of Asia as a parable for our times.

1. They are not the meek
Because in those countries is the Elite which rules over the people. The meek are the Chinese in labour camps and the untouchable Indians. They have not inherited the earth, they are slaving in order for the western world to live in luxury and with cheap clothes and cheap electronics.

It'll take a long time until the meek will win. The last couple of years the strong have been become more powerful and the meek have become weaker.

2. By comparison to the way these nations lived, it would be appropriate
to call them meek among the nations of the world.I agree, however, that there is a substratum within these societies that have not seen the benefits of development yet.

3. An old mentor told me that "The meek shall inherit the Earth, ...
... six feet of it."

I think he was referring to us Muricans.

4. It is the lowly cockroach which will inherit the earth
when we're done making it uninhabitable.

5. Only if your definition of "meek" is....
"nuclear powers who have committed genocide against other people, or their own, within the past 50 years."

CHINA: http://www.fatherryan.org/holocaust/Tibet/history.htm

INDIA: http://www.alrc.net/pr/mainfile.php/2004pr/47/

I bet that is exactly what Jesus was talking about!

The Pagan Preacher
I don't turn the other cheek.

6. Meek??? They ruled the world for FAR longer than WE ever did!
They may have lost that "powerful" position for a relatively short period of time, relative to human existence, but they would NEVER be considered "meek" in the biblical context.

7. I Always Preferred This Version
"The meek shall inherit the earth, the rest of us will go to the stars."
