Halliburton ad in NY Times
While rifling through the NY Times this morning, an almost weekly tradition, I almost spit out my coffee when I saw a very "lovely" ad for Halliburton. There stood a young, attractive woman in front of what appears to be an oil drill or refinery or something like that (I'm not very knowledgeable about such things, I must confess). She states:

"My dad didn't want his little girl out in the oil fields - thought I wouldn't "fit in'. Now, as a Senior engineer for Halliburton, I'm always going to our customer's sites. Seventy percent of the world's productioncomes from mature oil fields, many of which are yielding less than half of their potential. At Halliburton, we know how to get those wells producing - better, faster, safer. Nobody does that better than us."

Beautiful, just beautiful. It's touching how Halliburton helps the world become a better place, isn't it? And we're supposed to believe that the Times can do hard-hitting reporting on what is truly going on in Iraq when it receives ad money from Halliburton??? :argh:

1. Corporate media "whores": they'll run most any ad
if someone's willing to pony up the money.
BTW, welcome to DU! :hi:

3. New York Times had an ink supply contract with Enron that paid $ to NYT
up as a signing bonus for entering into the contract. Then Enron booked the contract and reported its future revenue as current revenue and then people bought Enron stock.

And people expect honest business reporting from the NYT on Enron???

Oh, and remember the business reporter who jumped out the window at the NYT building?
