Protest signs in yard draw the attention of Secret Service:
McCarthyism Watch: Secret Service Searches Home of Protester

Renee Jensen of Elkins, West Virginia, likes to express herself.

She has put up as many as a dozen signs in her yard over the past year, protesting the war in Iraq, Bush and Cheney, and the crackdown on civil liberties.

<snip>
The mayor of Elkins, Judy Guye, tried to use a city ordinance to make Jensen take her signs down.

"Guye had said she believes Jensen's signs pose a potential traffic hazard, since people driving by her house often stop or slow down to look at them," Paul J. Nyden wrote in an article for the Charleston Gazette on January 16. Nyden pointed out that the mayor, "a Republican, had a pro-Bush sign in her own front yard."

Guye backed off.

<snip>
Agent Lanham "asked me several times to sign a form about releasing my medical records, and I refused," she says. "That was kind of annoying. And he asked to search my house. He didn't have a search warrant, but I said go ahead. And they took some pictures of me and some pictures of my signs."

Before they left, she says, "I had to sign a statement that I never threatened the President's life."

10. He wasn't "right"....
No sane person fires on an officer for any reason. That's why we have lawyers and courts.

That's sad.

19. No, actually we have lawyers and courts
to perpetuate the prison industrial complex and to opress minorities and the poor.

But I like your view better, so certain, so black and white even I can understand it.

23. He should have followed G Gordon Liddy's advice
"When a federal officer comes to your house aim for their head." G Gordon Liddy is a Republican Hero for making that statement.

12. When are the SS going to get the guy who threatened Clinton
Edited on Sun May-08-05 07:28 AM by zbdent
if he was going to "come to my state"? Seems like it was some congressman or something . . .

Clinton was President at the time . . . or something . . .

Seems about as definite a threat as the signs in the yard.

Or maybe a bit tamer than the one that had the Repugs in Congress calling the cops: "Come over here and say that, you fruitcake!"

4. I still have my Kerry/Edwards yard sign up
Fascism is creeping in fast. Anyone shows up at my doorstep and I will ask them whether they believe in the first amendment.

I'm going to leave my sign up until if falls apart. I want no one to think I condone the actions of Bush.

7. Oh yes, Erika this is from William Rivers Pitt
A Friend in Need
April 29th, 2005
A great friend of the activist community named Andy Stephenson needs our help. Andy has been a tireless fighter for election reform in America for years. He worked closely with the Black Box Voting organization, spent every waking moment traveling and speaking on the issue of electronic touch-screen voting machines, and even ran for Secretary of State in Washington on a platform based on this specific issue.

I remember meeting up with him last August in Seattle for a Rolling Thunder event. The day was dedicated to a variety of group conversations on topics ranging from the Iraq occupation to environmental protection to electronic voting and the upcoming election. Every gathering where Andy came to speak was packed, and he described in eerily prescient detail what eventually happened in Ohio and elsewhere during the November presidential election.

Andy has to have this Whipple surgery for any chance at all to survive. I will bring you more information in a second, i don't want you to have to search okay.

I thought I read where this person had to have a certain amount for surgery and had received this amount? It sickens me that health coverage is denied in this country unless you can afford it. That's about as unChrisitan as a country can get. Shame on Bush and everyone who voted for him.

22. All this money is for a Whipple?!?!?!?
How the hell was he not getting a Whipple? Oh my God, we are all going to hell in a handbasket when a seriously ill person cannot get a lifesaving procedure like that. Man, am I glad I sent money now. I cannot believe this! He needs a freakin' Whipple procedure and can't get it without paying all of it up front--no wonder we're all so mad here. No wonder my husband comes home from the hospital many days and can't even talk about it, just grumbles and mumbles about insurance and money.

What the hell is it going to take for this country to wake up and nationalize our health care system?!?!?!?!

27. It's disgusting!!
I cannot believe that people who are hurting so bad still don't want a good national solution. My in-laws, so Republican they get the party catalog (!!!), are just now coming around, as they lose their insurance because my MIL had breast cancer and my FIL is cobbling part-time jobs together. I can't believe it. What will it take for the American people to stand up and defend their rights?

17. I've had my signs ripped down, but I notified the police and put them
right back up! All of my signs are inside of my fenced yard (which makes them a little hard to read from the street). I have one that says, "Bush lied and thousands died" from Impeachbushnow.org. It's been up since 2003. I have the 'What Mandate?' sign and two homemade ones. One is about 4' by 5' and says, "Mission Accomplished NOT" and has the American GI death count which I change daily, plus coalition and Iraqi civilian deaths. Close to that one is "Dying for NEOCON Empire".

They will stay there until Bush leaves office. During the election I had others including one 8' x 4', saying "W=Wrong Way for the USA".

28. Our Kerry/Edwards sign lasted until last week.
And I know who took it. (Not the SS, luckily. Maybe the next one though.)

It will soon be replaced by something a bit STRONGER, both in construction and WORDING.
