HAPPY NATIONAL NURSES WEEK!
May 6--12 is National nurses week. There are approx 2.7 million registered nurses nationwide. Nurses fill many varied roles: from clinics to public health, psychiatric, to hospice, to hospital. There are also nurse practitioners, teaching nurses and industrial nurses--not to mention flight for life nurses and neonatal nurses, and on and on!
Many health workers are affiliated with nurses: LPNs, nursing assistants, health unit coordinators to name a few. We could not function without them, nor could they function without us. We are not alone!
So to all the nurses on this forum I say congratulations on your job well done and thanks for being a nurse!

7. I can't say enough good things about nurses...
Y'all have such a rigorous education followed by years of working with very little appreciation. There's been an assault on our nurses in the last few years - little in the way of pay increases, greatly increased work loads, and longer shifts. And yet you do your jobs exceeding well and still manage to put on a "happy face" for those of us who need one the most when we're feeling our worst.

And remember, it's the nurses in California who are leading the charge to kick the governator in the butt!

8. There is a shortage of nurses...
Yes nurses are leaving the profession and not enough are registering for nursing school to fill the ever increasing shortage. Patients in hospitals are sicker than ever and the technology is now beyond the wildest dreams of those who joined the profession 30 years ago. Some nursing schools are now found in engineering schools (Milwaukee School of Engineering).
The * ba$*^rds took away overtime for nurses--something nurses relied on. Now less nurses are willing to work longer hours to fill in when the patient census goes up.

So any of you who say thanks to nurses, I'm sure we all say thanks back!
