For What It's Worth
As relevant today, if not more so, as it was when Stills wrote it in 66

For What It's Worth
Stephen Stills

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

5. Or maybe it is just the reality of
What was, is, and will be, ad infinitum. I am somewhat a proponent of the idea that WWII never actually ended, it has just morphed and changed and has gone into and out of different phases over the last 60 years, understanding that war is not defined as battlefield conflicts only.

I just happen to be letting real player shuffle through songs this morning when this came up and it reminded me that it helped to explain the world to me when it first came out, and it still helps explain it to me today.

I particularly like the line of "singing songs and carrying signs, mostly see say hurray for our side," as the political debate today doesn't seem to be as much about finding truth, as it is about proving our side is correct. (Our side being which ever side one happens to be on)
