HAVANA (UPI) -- Heavy metal's Audioslave is poised to become the first U.S. rock group to perform in Cuba.

The free Friday night performance at La Tribune in Havana is expected to draw at least 50,000 fans, E! Online reported.

"Kids are the same all over the world, and we are extremely proud and excited to bring rock 'n' roll to the youth of Cuba," Audioslave said in a statement."It's all about the music, and free expression of music crosses all barriers. This is a rare opportunity, and we are grateful and honored to have the support of both countries." Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell said during a Havana news conference Thursday: "Music can transcend politics and this trip is proof of that."

Officials said Fidel Castro may attend the concert, which is part of cultural exchange program between the United States and Cuba.

Keep in mind that Bush's Treasury Dept denies visas to Cuban band to play here in the USA.

1. Even worse Mika, Cuban bands are denied visas for Grammys
Even when they are nominated for Grammys, Cubans are not given visas by U.S. since B* has been in office.

It's sad that it has to be news that an American band performs in Cuba!

3. Do you think that W* would show up for a Cuban band?
Only if it was an anti Castro band. :puke:
