Condi is also galavanting about on our money, telling the rest of the world that what they are doing is wrong and they had better shape up to imitate America, or else. She is being played by the rest of the world also and is making a damn fool of herself no matter what her verbal talent to spin.

This is how he runs the government? In abstentia? No wonder he is such a loser. If you are not there to run things, how can you be aware of anything?

Reid was extremely careful to contrast his remarks by first saying that he respected *, Sr. Although many DU threads vilify *, Sr as being he who spawned the evil, we tend to forget that Sr. did serve when asked, was an intellectual, served a variety of posts, had the common sense to stop short of taking over Iraq, and (despite previous promises and his own political beliefs) had the balls to save the dollar by closing military bases and enacting the (up to that point) largest tax increase in US history. It's true that the patriarch and other members of the BFEE always seem to show up at the most inopportune times (having dinner with Hinkley's parents the night before Reagan's near-assassination, calling in a threat on the President's life shortly before Kennedy was shot, entertaining the bin Ladens right before 9/11, etc), but *, Sr. was a man of principal who risked (and lost) his re-election for the good of the Republic.

I don't think Reid's comments were inappropriate given the gravity of our current situation. Nor do I feel they were accidental. He must be pretty optimistic that the opposition has nothing with which to blackmail him. It will be interesting to see how (or even IF) the media treats this. I might just watch the news tonight.

You're right, Cat Girl, responsible politicians should not speak this way of the opposition, but Reid's timing and the way he phrased his criticism might just end this game of 'the Emperor's new clothes.'
