U.S. Daily Casualties 9/18/2003

As of Wednesday, 297 U.S. soldiers have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the Department of Defense.

The British military has reported 49 deaths. Denmark's military has reported one.

On or since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 159 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, the latest Defense Department figures show.

Since the start of military operations, 1,251 U.S. service personnel have been wounded in hostile action, the U.S. Central Command said. Non-hostile in jured totaled 316.

The latest deaths reported by U.S. Central Command:


A soldier in the 101st Airborne Division area of operations died Monday from a non-hostile gunshot incident.
The latest identification reported by the Department of Defense:


Army Spc. Alyssa R. Peterson, 27, Flagstaff, Ariz.; killed Sept. 15 in Telafar, Iraq, by a non-combat weapons discharge; assigned to C Company, 311th Military Intelligence Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
