LONDON: As Britain voted, pollsters and pundits and press agonised over the size of Tony Blair's parliamentary majority.

But the Big B and his wife set a remarkably risqué record - unique among the 51 British prime ministers since Robert Walpole first held the office in 1721 - by using innuendo and inane bedroom jokes to stress that "size matters".

Jokily Blair told The Sun he had sex "at least" five times a night. In an election campaign riposte surely unknown anywhere in the world, the main opposition Conservatives was goaded into knee-jerk sarcasm.

"He must be lying," a Tory official was quoted to say, "Soon he'll be saying that each launch takes 45 minutes." The reference was to Blair's nemesis, the Iraq war and his false claim that Saddam's Iraq had weapons of mass destruction waiting to be launched in 45 minutes
