Predictions
PREDICTIONS – 9/18/2003

It’s prediction time again. My last prediction was that Bush wouldn’t attack Iraq until this coming Winter because he’d learned the lesson of his father that wars don’t translate into votes if they happen too long before the election. I was wrong. As I watch Bush’s poll ratings plummet I see he’s learned nothing.

There are strange goings-on at the White House these days. Cheney says on Sunday that Iraq was the geographical base for the 9/11 attack and everybody else at the White House then takes pains to say they have no evidence that Saddam was involved with 9/11. And the way they did it. One administration member per day, so the story would have legs. From this it’s obvious that Cheney is toast. Things aren’t going so well in Iraq, the poll numbers are down, so somebody has to go to distance Bush from the negative aspects of his own policy. And that somebody is Cheney. I predict that Dick Cheney will resign for health or personal reasons soon; probably in October.

But who will take his place? For that, we have to look at the General Wesley Clark phenomenon. Clark is a charismatic Democrat who has the credentials to challenge Bush on national security. This guy is a real threat. He’s going to point out the weaknesses in the Bush approach to the “war on terror”, and who among the Bush crowd has the stature to stand up to him? For God’s sake, it’s a four star general who’s telling us this crowd isn’t fighting a war the right way! (Bush’s own fault, he’s the one who called this confrontation with terrorism a war in the first place.) With one exception, this administration is a bunch of amateurs when it comes to war. And this one exception gives us the answer to our question. Who better than a general to stand up to another general? For this reason I predict Colin Powell will be selected as the replacement for Dick Cheney as Vice President.

Who knows? Might actually happen.

1. Very possible scenario...
I think Bush would might pick Colin Powell..if he thinks he is enough of a "yes" man. Bush likes the idea of being a dictator and having people grovel for him, in my opinion.

2. Great minds, progressivejazz......
....this was my posted best bet too, yesterday......
and my next best bet: Dubya's ambassador to the UK, Will Farish III, will be 'sudenly recalled', maybe even will 'resign....to spend more time with his family/horses/wallet/failed family lawsuits' archivist/mental health advisor, etc

6. Mmmm...when Bush goes down the pan, there'd be good grounds
for a little 'recall election', just like they're planning in California.....Bowel is just the arse end of the Bush 1 Part 2 nightmare, can't see him and/or Condi making a sudden coup d'etat....

7. NO problem- it's all speculation anyway
I think their internal polling shows Bush is absolutely unelectable in '04. I seriously think they are going to dump Cheney AND Bush.

9. Uhhhh...let us call it the GOP Locus of evil.
which is now in and intends to remain in the White House. The heads and names and faces may change, but the core and intent of this cabal wants to remain in power, and we can see they will do whatever it takes.
Note: Just becasue you resign doesn't mean you're out of the game. ($$$$)

Proof

11. Well,
there's still a nominating and "election" process that needs to occur. You can be sure there's no chance of Bush being dumped, because he's been so useful so far. Stealing the election is quite another thing.

Also, look forward to the meanest, dirtiest campaign ever, no matter who the nominee is. Any opposition to Bush's policies will be framed as being treasonous. Even Clark, if he gets the nomination, will be open to that charge.

And unfortunately, your link simply gets me to the front page of the Washington Post, and on principal I won't give my personal information to any mainstream news organization to look up old articles. What was gist of the article you wanted me to see?

13. Since when does the GOP care if some one is "electable" or not? They just
STEAL the elections anyway. What difference does it make?

Geesh.

12. Wouldn't the repugs
want to put in someone else as VP? If Powell got the nod that would make a black man the frontrunner in '08. The country's not ready for that. Not with the neocons around.
