I have CNN on in the background and this dumbass reporter did a bit about the threat of a NUCLEAR weapon being detonated by terrorists in the U.S. She pronounced like * does about 8 times in the piece.

Castillian spanish was supposedly changed because the King lisped..so I guess CNN is using Noo-Que-Lur in "honor" of our impaired president..

There's always been a tendency for people to copy those in power, in terms of things like fashion or entertaining (e.g. the Kennedy years) -- but I must say, it's getting pretty pathetic if the media (and probably Bush's advisers) are doing things they know are incorrect, just so they don't appear to be contradicting him! And this isn't the first time this has happened -- Bush stumbled over Cheney's name early on, and now we're all stuck with "Chay-nee" instead of "Chee-nee" which is how Dick himself says it.

I had wondered way back when if Michael Douglas pronounced it that way in The China Syndrome on purpose, for some sort of artistic reasons or something. But he did it again in The American President, too, and I've heard more than a few people from various parts of the country say it that way, too. I have no idea where the people who do say nuke-U-lar get that delivery, though, since it doesn't even come close to the way the work looks when written. Very bizarre.
