Nice to see this again

This is a map indicating who gets nailed in a nuke attack. We used to see these regularly back in the 1970's in the Washington Post. I would like to draw your attention to the location of the radioactive plume, in this map, it follows the prevailing winds and is carried over, you guessed it, some of the DC area's poorest neighborhoods.....

2. but surely the path of radiation would be wider than that?
am I stupid or is this map implying anyone who lives in Alexandria is "okay"?

5. It would seem to imply that. The whole map is kind of ridiculous if you
ask me.

10. Just an estimated path of heavy particles based on prevailing winds
If the wind shifts, so too the fallout.

3. Wonderful!
If the bomb hits after work, I'll be fine. Otherwise, I'm fucked.

6. It's actually kind of hilarious
the way it shows such a narrow path of radiation. Looks like Rosslyn, or even Theodore Roosevelt Island would be quite safe. Oh, and National Airport would be unaffected apparently.

Seriously, I wonder why they didn't do a more realistic one showing concentric rings of death and destruction?

13. That's what they used to do
back in the Cold War Days. You know, I think developers started all of this so people would high tail it out to exurbia.....:tinfoilhat:

7. I have posted before about mystery earthquakes in
my area the Central California Coast. They especially happen when there is a marine layer or fog and/or rain clouds eliminating any visibility in the sky of contrails, the giveaway for a missile launch. There was the possiblity that missiles were being launched from nearby Vandenburg AFB. No one would comment on those rumblings from the base.

However, the base warns you when they are launching Minutemen missiles. However, now the cat is out of the bag. It was revealed on AAR by a guest on one of the programs, name of which eludes me right now, that Vandenburg has nuclear tipped missiles that can be launched as far as Korea.

:wow: Should we on the West Coast be worried that we will become targets?

9. We used to get similar maps from the local nuclear plant
showing what could happen in the event of a catastrophic meltdown, and what the evacuation procedures were.

I lived right across the street from the demarcation line - people who lived across from me had to evacuate, but my family would not have to. Silly.

11. Unless "they" miss!!!!
Just looking at it, I have the strange sense that the only way to protect ourselves is to give up all our constitutional rights, and have faith that Mr. Cheney will lead us to safety. I also have the urge to watch re-runs of Survivor, and to go on a shopping spree.

12. gonna kill kill kill, kill kill the poor!

Kill the Poor
(Jello Biafra)

Efficiency and progress is ours once more
Now that we have the Neutron bomb
It's nice and quick and clean and gets things done
Away with excess enemy
But no less value to property
No sense in war but perfect sense at home:

The sun beams down on a brand new day
No more welfare tax to pay
Unsightly slums gone up in flashing light
Jobless millions whisked away
At last we have more room to play
All systems go to kill the poor tonight

Gonna
Kill kill kill kill Kill the poor:Tonight

Behold the sparkle of champagne
The crime rate's gone
Feel free again
O' life's a dream with you, Miss Lily White
Jane Fonda on the screen today
Convinced the liberals it's okay
So let's get dressed and dance away the night

While they:
Kill kill kill kill Kill the poor:Tonight
