a bit of a doofus, but a nice well-meaning guy.

Its a page out of the Reagan playbook. Make him non-threatening, so
people have a harder time believing his critics.

2. I think you're right

For those of us in the know, it's was very distressing to watch the entire room belly laugh at Pickles' off color jokes about the murderer in chief. It was the same last year when he was looking for WMD under his freaking desk. I'm all for laughing, but not at the expense of thousands of dead people.
