1. It's outrageous
what they're doing in FL. Forcing a child to have a child. The circumstances could be rape, molestation, etc. And who's to say what effects having a child at that age would do to both the mother and the child.

I'm not sure. I don't understand people who do that. Vote yes, no or don't vote.

5. The response choices are too simplistic but I voted yes anyway
A foster child is not "in charge of her own body" or she wouldn't be thirteen years old and pregnant.

However, as I've noted before at DU, she's way, way too young to be having a baby at all, and not just emotionally. At her age there's a much higher risk of maternal death or injury, and a much higher risk of extremely premature birth, defect, or death of the infant.

This qualifies hands down as a medical reason for an abortion: as in, "the life and health of the mother are in danger."

But I don't expect the extreme religious right to understand that. Her pregnancy is also evidence of statutory rape of a minor. Are any of the brilliant, moral minds of Florida pursuing that angle, or are they too busy punishing this little girl?

6. 71 out of 79 total votes
said that a child in foster care should have control over their own body.

In Florida, that would be the only person in control, as their DCF section appears to lose kids quite a bit....

10. I think we should actually ask the question of...
how did a 13 year old become pregnant? I wonder if it was from the foster system? Is the system trying to protect someone?
