Anyone get a call from the "census bureau"?
A friend just e-mailed me and said her brother got a phone call from someone saying they were with the Census Bureau asking questions about issues of the day. The caller verified the brother's name but had his address wrong (to which he replied, according to my friend, "Doesn't the bureau know where I live?") The caller then reiterated that he was with the Census Bureau, to which the brother replied, "I don't think you are. I am not going to answer anything."

The caller was then silent before hanging up.

3. Census bureau does not call. They ring door bells.
They do not ask about views.

8. They do call
But they have to identify themselves by name, the official surevy name and sponsoring agency the survey that they are calling about. They will tell you at the begining of the converstion about the defined benefit/goals of survey. If you have caller ID, it will come up as US Government. They also have to provide you with the incoming toll free number, just incase you want to call them back to confirm that they are really an employee of the Census bureau. One final thing, every year without fail thay must sign an oath of confidentiality that spells out the hefty penalty both in fines and prison time for violating that oath.

5. I think pretending to represent a federal organization is a crime.
You might want to inform the proper authorities about this.
