Starting with our dead and wounded troops?
Let's face it, bushco loves you as long as you fit their Just Us vision of America. But once you do something that explodes their mythos - like losing your job or getting yourself killed in Iraq - then you become invisible. There's no funeral parade down Main Street USA if you have the bad judgment of getting yourself wasted in some desert war. Nope. You're smuggled home in the middle of the night in a box, shipped off to your loved ones and basically shoved out of sight of the American consciousness. You're disappeared.
How different would it be if the Dems stood up for those currently disappeared? If they made sure that Americans knew about every man and woman who got killed in Iraq? Insisted that they be openly honored for giving the ultimate sacrifice? If they *insisted* that the Commander in Chief attended each and every funeral of every dead soldier? Exploitation...or recognition of their sacrifice?
By going along with bushco's erasing of these victims from the public mind, we reinforce the heinous acts of this administration while ceding a natural and needed advocacy.
