Americans are so weird; I really believe people in Duluth, GA
feel robbed of "their" soap opera. All that crap about "oh we HOPE she's just a runaway bride...we hope she's just alive and safe..." and now we get this crap: "Town Feels betrayed by missing bride hoax."

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050501/ap_on_re_us/missing_bride

What a load of shit...the town...the whole freaking town feels "betrayed???"

Whatthehellever...they just wanted this to be a full blown soap opera.

2. Not just a funeral, but the chance to put up memorials....
and go through all that Lacy stuff...

I really believe that Americans have become so sick that they just see other people's lives as entertainment fodder.

21. Yes, can you just imagine the disappointment.
and the news is just beside themselves, here was the story to keep the people occupied for the next trillion months and the anguish Rove must feel is probably unbearable. Can't keep the simpletons minds occupied while he puts his next plan into effect.

3. I'm sure they're glad to have had their prayers answered
No one wanted this woman to turn up dead. But the old "Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it" axiom applies.

The award for truly disgusting behavior goes to our media and its usual circus. How many people go missing in this country every year? If you only had our corporate news to rely on, you'd think it was only a few...and they were all white girls.

4. Duluth is not so much a town...
Edited on Sun May-01-05 07:23 AM by onehandle
...as it is a huge and spread out, overgrown collection of strip malls, walmarts, trailer homes, and check cashing establishments, with a few gated communities thrown in.

Don't picture Mayberry.

It's a white trash (almost) done good area that was nothing but farm land 25 years ago. Racists that can't stand the diversity of Atlanta moved out there over the last couple of decades.

Feel sorry for CNN. They lost their Laci Peterson II.

8. Right. My point was that I lived in Atlanta
and am familiar with the surrounding area.

I got a warning ticket in Gwinnet County on 85 by a state trooper with an accent so thick he made me sound like a yankee.

30. Wasn't Gwinnett where that murderer guy went to find his "angel"?
She dropped off the radar quickly.. I wonder if she ever got her reward money?

6. Now wait a minute..
When someone goes missing, the community gets out and starts searching. Normal people leave their homes and organize to perform searches in hopes of finding that missing person.

In addition to the citizens, local, state and federal police agencies were involved in the search for this woman - at great expense to the taxpayers.

To discover that a 32 yr. old woman pulled a "16 yr. old, I want attention stunt" infuriates them. If she was a kid who got cold feet, they'd all be laughing and saying kids will be kids - the brat needs a good spanking. But they'd be elated that she was found. This is an adult - someone who should be long past such childish stunts.

I think their anger and sense of betrayal is well placed.

9. I agree - and think it's the Coroporate Media who feels betrayed
and not relieved that their latest story was cut short.

However, they COULD spend a few weeks interviewing psychologists about such an immature act by a so-called adult. It's BEYOND strange.

10. I would agree with that under normal circumstances
But, Americans have been turning this type of crap into circuses lately; and the common quote was "I HOPE she got cold feet." Now, they are angry because she got cold feet.

Honestly, some of them seem deprived of their Lacy moment, and I personally find that bizarre.

As far as being disgusted with an adult pulling that stunt; I agree with you completely. However, I didn't feel deprived of a National Soap Opera when she was found. Hate that she wasted all that time and money; but glad she is safe--even if she is a selfish spoiled brat.

12. Agreed, but
Isn't it the MEDIA that feels deprived?

How many times are they going to play that 911 tape? My guess would be long enough to make this a story about the racism the woman exhibited by blaming an "hispanic" man. Just long enough to start a race war would be my call.

The media didn't get their National Rich White Woman Missing Soap Opera so they'll make a race war out of it.

But, I think you're wrong to blame the community.

15. Possibly. I haven't heard the 911 tape
Interesting point- maybe today I will turn on the TV.

I should have made myself more clear; I was referring to what I was reading in the print media---I gave up TV "news" completely when we moved to Greensboro--too much other stress to watch the crap-

I did agree with the other poster...that the media is slanted-

17. Cable "News" is blocked here too, but
I'm hearing the 911 tape being played (a state away) as the "lead story" for the local news shows. Just the part about the "hispanic male" in a blue van.........

26. Here's the question
One party to this wedding has money. Is it the woman's family or the fiance's?

If it's her family, she'll just disappear from the news radar. If it's his family, this may go on forever.

Another question for you - since you are local. There was a woman who went missing from a beauty shop near there last year (I think) - what happened to that story? She wasn't rich (nor white) so the story went away pretty fast and I never heard the conclusion. Is she still missing?

My memory on that story was tickled because this woman's 911 call sounded like the same scenario and wondered if she was just trying to make the connection in her 911 call.

23. Maybe thats what she wants?
"the brat needs a good spanking".

Her eyes seem somehow strange, spaced out. I cannot really describe the eyes right.

Anyway, contrary to what is wrote on the water tanks, Gwinnett is NOT Great NOR does Success Live Here. Gwinnett is a traffic clogged mash of unchecked growth run wild, like a field choked with Kudzu.

It was better 20 years ago as far as the traffic, but proportionally there was far more redneck peckerwoods then. Now the place is loaded with 'dynamic' butt kissers (titans in industry wannabees) from other parts of the country in addition to the rednecks. A real Republican heaven on earth.

25. I'm with you....
.... the only thing that would keep me from locking this fool up for 6 months is that she might not be mentally all there.

If she is, what she has done is a crime, wasting thousands of dollars of resources that could have been used for something productive.

It was a premeditated act, and she put her parents, family and fiance through hell.

I don't think much of her as a person, that's for sure. But as I said, there is a good chance in my mind that she's not playing with a full deck, and if so has diminished responsibility for her acts.

I can see they would feel used and what happens when someone really is kidnapped...these people are less apt to help because they will be very skeptical from now on.

16. What's worse is
The man was literally left at the alter on national television after enduring a lie detector test, while being (silently) accused of knocking her off.

Can you imagine the jokes this guy will have to endure at work and the gym?

24. After seeing her fiance on TV after she was "found"
(but before it was clear she'd run away), I saw a very good reason why she DID run away - I'd think twice about marrying a praise-Jaysus happy-clapper and have to listen to all the ostentatious proclaiming of belief. Not excusing what she did, but in a small tight-knit community she could have felt trapped and unable to turn to anyone.........

28. He said something like
"God is alive, God is great, God answers prayers, she's alive and coming home" - I'm not against religion, and having faith is a wonderful thing, but I'm really uncomfortable with it paraded around 24/7 and being forced down one's throat.

29. May be she should have thought of that in the first place.
I used to live there it isn't that small. It's one of the most populated and active areas in Gwinnett County (Metro Atlanta). Just 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta if there isn't any TRAFFIC lol. It is a repuke suburban county though. They have their fair share of happy clappers. It's also where Brian Nichols the "Fulton County Courthouse shooter" was hiding.
