Iraqi?

Watching Mark Bowden (author of "Blackhawk Down") on Book TV talking about embedded journalism.

Was that soldier ever charged and tried?

1. The event happened in Fallujah in November...
... and as of February, 2005, the Marine involved had not been charged. Navy legal spokesmen have said that the circumstances were ambiguous enough that a conviction would be impossible.

The NBC cameraman maintains a blog and there may be more on this subject there:

2. Thank you
It's amazing how something so blatant can be swept under the rug.

3. The NBC cameraman said...
... it just didn't make any sense, because right after shooting the wounded Iraqi, the Marine just walked on past another wounded Iraqi hiding under a blanket, who was trying to talk and couldn't. As the cameraman said, the other was more potentially dangerous because he could have been hiding a weapon under the blanket.

But, the simple truth is that unless something truly egregrious happens (say, along the lines of mass executions of surrendered fighters), most of it will be swept under the rug. War is like Pandora's Box. Once it's started, it's impossible to get all the evil and harm back in and under control.... *sigh*
