My husband is now part of the "AIP" -- "Avoid Iraq Program" as the soldiers call it. He and others he knows are purposely getting locked into two years at a non-deployable duty station so they won't have to go back to Iraq. And for my husband that meant extending for 5 months.
A couple days ago I had surgery and was staying in the army hospital. An army social worker came around to talk to me since my husband recently left for Korea and I was alone. He was talking about the number of wounded soldiers and those with PTSD coming back from Iraq. He was talking about how these soldiers will tell the newspapers and the TV reporters that they are happy to have done this for their country and for the Iraqis and for their president. BUT, behind closed doors they tell the social worker that they are so angry about the WMD's lies and are so angry that Bush got a second term. Many tell him they went to Iraq believing in their mission but are angry now that they've been there. I knew a lot of soldiers are anti-Bush, but from what is in the news it doesn't seem that way. I was glad that they are so anti-Bush but at the same time I couldn't help but feel sad that they were injured and endured so much for what they know to be a war based on lies.
